Default 1986.5 fuel pump

I found that the fuel pump on my project was shot as well...

Autohaus AZ has 2 different ones, the external Bosch and an in-tank one...

The sales rep did not know whether the car needs both (i`ve never herd of a car with 2 fuel pumps) or if different tank/ pump setups were used.

Can someone please shed light on this?

the in tank pump is a boost pump to ensure the external high pressure pump has a constant supply. It should be no issue to just run an external, and is likely how your car was delivered. you can tell by looking where the fuel line comes out of the bottom of the tank. if you have 2 wires connected to the fitting where the fuel line is attached you have an internal pump, if not then you don't.

If your car has an internal pump that has failed you can replace it with a fuel strainer and only run the external.

You need an external pump 928 608 104 01 Bosch number 61 417.
I sell for $235.

It is useful to compare the response from the rep at Autohaus (I dunno) to the response from Roger (here's what you need, the part #, and the price). Shop wisely, grasshopper...

OK thanks gents. It`s only one set of wires so no internal pump.
AutohausAZ has the external Bosch pump for $168.

I actually bought a generic brand that is supposed to fit the 928 off ebay for 50 bucks...hope it will work.

I was browsing AutohausAZ hoping to find some microfiches or exploded view diagrams for the car and noticed that there were 2 pumps for sale...

The parts diagram is available directly on Porsche's website.

Roger also sells a set of discs that include the parts and maintenance manuals as well as numerous additional technical publications.
