I live in a smaller town in Iowa, Dubuque. We have a population of about 70,000. I travelled to a Cars and Coffee in DFW a few years back and was amazed at the variety of cars and people that came out.
My question is: How do I get something like this going here? Is there a recipe for success on one of these things?

Get some business cards made up with the information you want to present, like day, time, length and start passing them out to every car guy/girl you come across. Show up consistently and as time goes on more people will make it a routine part of their schedule.

the local PCA folks work with the Ferrari, Lambo, Aston clubs as well the dealers that sell cars and other likeminded businesses.....the tuner clubs and American iron seem to have there own but do mix/mingle in smaller gatherings

The DFW Cars & Coffee you spoke of is held the first Saturday of every month at the BMW dealership in Plano. They offer a large empty lot for parking and open the restrooms in the dealership and benefit from public foot traffic. Every car club in town knows about Cars & Coffee usually park by club. A different charity is also represented each month that benefits from your donated dollars for coffee, water, etc.
I think the key is a dealership who will offer the lot and public restrooms, a charity who will help with directing traffic, trash, etc) and getting the word out to the different car clubs in your area.
Ft. Worth is trying to replicate this event. Good luck!
