G'day,
I'm a shark owner from Western Australia, I'm the proud owner of a low kilometre 1988 s4 black on black, this vehicle is in exceptional condition thanks to some fanatical previous owners, I have receipts from the most recent that total 10 k, he had the engine powder coated ,the body was nano coated and a lot of other work done.
Sadly neither replaced the timing belt, so though it has done less than 20,000 km on the old belt, it is now 7 years old and the belt ten light has made the dreaded appearance, any advice on finding the kit I need ( I have the water pump already) would be appreciated ,I also have a mystery to solve with my shark, her rear end seems wrong, the rear end seems as though it came from a GTS and as the pictures I will post in a second ( they're on my phone ) show has the centre strip instead of the indented porsche name.
I'm absolutely delighted to be part of these forums and look forward to being part of the land shark community, pictures of my baby to follow.

Nice looking Shark you've got there! The GTS bumper cover has been the only replacement cover available from Porsche for years. So it's likely it was installed after the original was damaged in an accident. Or maybe installed by the PO just because he liked the look over the original.... Enjoy the ride

We are delighted to have you as a member of the 928 community - in my humble opinion, the greatest and most helpful automotive community on this mostly blue planet. There are several fellow Aussies on this board, as well as members of the international 928 Owners Club. I'm sure you will find help with any and all issues, and Sean gave you a good suggestion regarding purchasing parts needed from Roger Tyson (a Brit by birth, but he speaks something close to Australian English!). Post away with any further questions.
Your car looks to be in beautiful condition, and changing the timing belt is a good thing after the 7 years. Consider the 'racing' belt for longevity, along with the Porkensioner to provide a constant belt tension throughout the operation of the engine and the life of the new belt. Costs a bit, but is well tested by a lot of us US blokes, as well as others around the world.

That's not fair Roger- does not not talk jibberish!![order](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/order.gif)
Also a hearty welcome to our new colleague down under- as an Aussie you must have a good sense of humour. We have a great lot on this list and the collective knowledge is unbeatable.
If you have doubts about the TB do not run the motor until you have changed the belt and water pump out. Our parts suppliers like Roger can get parts to you in as little as 48 hours [as me how I know]- I am about as far from the chaps in the States as you can get on the planet short of Christmas Island I suspect.
Check the condition of the cam wheel and crank pinion teeth carefully. The tensioner pulleys also need to be checked as they often go a bit rough- plenty of threads about this in the search engine.
Good luck
Fred

Welcome to board, your car looks to be in exceptional condition.
I wouldnt start the engine any more till the belt tension has been checked .
NOTE more than a few engines have been ruined by not following this advice.
Also I suggest to make sure you install a new Laso water pump
you didnt mention the one you got,
but if its rebuilt put it on the coffee table engine block.
Roger sells these new pumps as well,
they have plastic impellers so they wont damage the block if they go bad

Nice car, wish the interior on mine was one tenth as good.
As said above, getting the parts from the US is the only way to go.
If you get stuck in the meantime, I have a few spares including a new timing belt & WP in my shed at Collie.

So you have a GTS rear cover, GTS wheels (C2 Cup Wheels - early GTS) & GTS Mirrors. I suspect a previous owner just liked the look of a GTS...
You also have an aftermarket steering wheel and shifter **** and what looks like an aftermarket head unit... all looks good.
One window switch seems to be trying to escape...!
Looks very nice - you can clearly see someone cared for it...

Hi
I have a Kempf tool to test the belt tension if you want to borrow and test but a belt change sounds like a good option. Just checked my belt last month and stopped the tension warning light going off.
There is a small group of owners in Perth and we are trying to get some runs arranged if you are interested.
Not sure if you are in Donnybrook or Perth? I am in Woodvale jut off the freeway. Send me a PM if you want to borrow.
