Default Has anyone put a mercedes diesel in a 928?

I was wondering if anyone has done this. I occasionally see engine-challenged 928s for sale and old MB diesels are a dime a dozen around here. I'm nearing the end of my BMW sedan pickup conversion and was thinking about this as a winter project.

I know back in the day people used to transplant engines pretty easily (f.e. a ford with a chevy v8). They would have a place cut the driveline from the original rear dif and cut the driveline from the new tranny and weld them together.

Can something like this be done for the 928? I believe the 928 uses the MB auto tranny? Does that help? Would be very slow but good on gas. I would keep my other 928s, this idea would be more for one that would otherwise go to the crusher.

See if your dealer is holding a Duramax! Would provide a much better high for your recreational dollar.

I would say what he would have said.

Yes, it has been done. There are at least two in Finland. Huge turbo and big boost makes them much faster than 99% of 928's anywhere.

Would you be able to share more? Diesels can pack so much torque. X5 diesel is 500+ lbs.

They use normal easily available inline-6 and IIRR Holset turbo. TQ is so high that stock TT center shaft can't take it and custom have been build. IIRR one make 400+ hp and 700+ lbs.

Swapping David Hockney canvas for vintage pattern wallpaper. Aesthetic utility in favor of fine art.

Porsche engine a visceral pleasure (especially the original iteration and its silver spidery legs) that slurps gas, like absinthe from a tea cup, and growls accordingly.

Mercedes engine efficient and nondescript, humorless and susceptible to organic vegetable oil.

Ultimately performing such an engine swap would be nothing short of...MURDER!!!!!!

Well, at least there's an idea that's more rebellious (and revolting to some) than putting a 6 liter LS motor into a 928.
