Here's a cover I did today to whet the 924/944 appetite a little bit...just look at that beautiful, honest patina.

OK, i have to admit that I was conjuring up an email in my head asking whether this would be an actual paper publication...but fortunately I did read this thread closely enough to catch the answer to that, and I understand the volume concerns.

I can think of a lot of material that I would like to see generated, and some segments of the community that aren't often outspoken. It will be a good litmus test to see whether the articles consistently hit your benchmark of frank and irreverent. I hope so.

Steve!!! So nice to hear from ya...I'd love kick around some ideas with you. By the way, I plan on doing a paper version cause I'm an old-fashioned kinda guy but right now I can't justify such an investment without subscription numbers. Besides, you can't view videos on a paper rag or link to a website...yet.

tough to keep that "old fashioned" tendency coupled up with "right now"....sooner or later yesterday builds inertia and jets off to the horizon while one is moseying along contemplating tomorrow. WHups, guess I'm overtired again. Off to read the pm- hope you are making it to Frenzy!

Was thinking you can do a quarterly hard copy with all the digital issues? And have them prepay? or subscribe?

Or use a pay as you go publishing resource like HP Magcloud or blurb.com. They can print and fulfill orders as they come in. I bet early devotees and featured cars and their owners will want hardcopy.

Dennis, MJ928...excellent points! I did look into magcloud and it seems like an option. What I need to do is weave an issue together, when that's ready, I'll present here to collect some final thoughts and off we go.

I'll draw up an outline of what the first issue should have. Then I'll rope everyone together to collect the stories and ideas from those who want to be in on it. We'll polish the stories up, get some sweet photos together, and see what the creation looks like buttoned up. Nothing short of bitchin' is what I anticipate throwing together...then we'll see how many rags we need to make for distribution and off we go.

This I like better than the clock. I'd go with it, worn handle says it all. I would photoshop out the long scratch though as it is distracting.

NOTE TO ALL: Please email me if you've got a restored water cooled Porsche in the garage you're proud of.

maybe there's still a chance for a mix of internet and paper.....

back in the day there was an East Coast publication called Surf Magazine.

it came out every 3 months. which was about perfect considering it took about that long for a couple of swells to happen on the East Coast sufficient to generate enough photo contributions for the editor... i'd be happy to pay $20 per issue to see something fabulous land in my mailbox a few times each year. that's about what I was spending for a few magazines a few years ago, before the internet took over.

the same thing is going on now with the Surfer's Journal - which functions somewhere between a huge, soft-cover photo book, and a classic water sportsman enthusiast magazine, with 6 issues per year. those giant pages really allow the incredible photography to leap out.....

I wish you success with this venture ! I would be pleased to contribute.

Digital format is perhaps he only viable form of distribution. Hard copy transport costs worldwide would be prohibitive. If the digital format could be arranged that is compatable with normal publishing software/hardware then individual or groups of customers could offer hard copies in their country ?

I can kick off the DE/racing section in two weeks... What better place is there than Watkins Glen for that?! Maybe the 'ring or Le Mans, but domestically that's hard to beat!

Name for the section... Hard to come up with something not trite. Corner Working? Apex Checks?

As far as hard copy publishing, I wonder if there's a way to do it through Snapfish etc where if someone wants to get a bound version they can order a one-off. At least at the beginning, the mag could be designed with that in mind so it's just a matter of hitting "print" and then it gets mailed to the buyer. I get hard cover photobooks from Snapfish all the time and they're great. Not sure if they do softcover stuff but I have to imagine they do. They can print on just about anything.

Alternatively, this could be a profit center at first, too. Provide the e-version and offer an on demand printed version that Flussig sends out at a premium over the actual cost from Snapfish. This would require two formats (don't want it to be too easy for potential buyers to bypass this step!) but that's not a big deal when it's all digital.

Or, offer an annual print "special edition" that has the entire year of issues bound in it. Hard cover, too. I'd buy that.

Odurandina...that's the long term plan. This baby really screams print. With the digital version though I can inbed video, link websites, lots of opportunities.

John Speake...PM sent.

Mike...the racing beat is yours. Maybe we can call it 'from the (roll)cage,' 'the caged beast,'or something. PM your email and we'll kick 'er around some.

awesome stuff Pablo. I love your enthusiasm. I'd love to be a contributor, in the early model sector. I have some thoughts as to articles as well, and I can edit (I've done that before for legal publications). Sort of like a Hemmings Sports and Exotics devoted to water-cooled classic, p-cars. Do you plan to attend Frenzy? Many of us will be there, and it would be a great place to talk in person about a lot of these ideas.
