Default Oil change jockeys loved it

Went today to have the oil changed in my '90 (the hassle of doing that job and disposing of the oil responsibly is not worth me doing it myself IMO).

Anyway, the techs loved the car and took pics of the engine bay with a cell phone. Obviously a welcome change for them

I had to show them the headlights working.

They do other old Porsches - everyone asks for high zinc oil they say.

I get large empty cooking oil jugs. It takes several changes to fill it, and then I drop at the dump for free.

I find its hard to get high zinc oil at any lube n go. Rotella was good but the pulled zinc out of it recently. What oil did they have?

Amsoil 20W-50. I did bring my Roger-supplied filter and crush ring.

Smart move on bringing the correct parts. They probably would have reused the crush ring.
I learned that the hard way. Nobody touches my car except for the only factory trained 928 mechanic
I know of. I still do the basic stuff like oil changes because $80 in oil alone is a lot, let alone the ridiculous
charges for an oil change there are in my area.

When I do any fluid changes I use my large drip receiver which drains into a big flat pan on wheels. The large receiving port in this has a large screw on lid. There is also a standard screw on cap perpendicular to this.
I simply fill the large empty oil jugs/coolant jugs that I just poured in the engine. I take them to the dump when convenient for me.

My local Advance Auto takes used oil. After dumping the oil in their drum, I throw the bottles in their dumpster. Easy as that!

Elk Grove supplies jugs for used oil. On garbage day I put the jugs on the street next to the garbage cans, garbage man picks them up. Oil filters as well. Free service offered as part of our regular garbage service. And yet most people don't know about it; the used oil tank at the auto parts store is usually full.

I know this same comment was written in another thread. Everytime you write to add to a thread I always have to go back and re-read what you wrote a second time because your avatar is so distracting(in a nice way of course)
