This photo appears again and again and doesn't even look like a fuel line fire... or at least the fuel lines most people have been talking about replacing... as in on or around the engine under the hood. This one looks more like a fuel tank or cat fire or something in the passenger compartment.
Ironically, the hottest part of the OP pics fire appears to be the drivers side fender. Have to wonder what energy source is enough to collapse the front spring and yet leave the block and heads intact. Looks like more damage external to the engine bay than internal.
One burn up here in indy with a similar pattern where it looks like a bunch of fuel maybe got sucked into the vacuum storage canister or something. Maybe brake fluid, maybe fuel being squirted way under the fender. It's curious that the fuel lines are on the passenger fender, on the engine, and one the fire wall, but not on the drivers side fender and yet that is what burned the hottest.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame every vehicle fire on faulty fuel lines. I'd bet that improperly seated and or tightened connectors are pretty high on the fuel fire list. There are a number of other flammable materials that could start and subsequently compromise fuel lines too.

These pics are painful to see.
They show the irreversible destruction of a fine piece of engineering that can not be replaced, and hence will reduce the species number permanently.

Hey Kurt: Is the white 928 in your photo a GTS? The rear wheel well looks like it has the larger GTS opening and the bodyside moulding also appears shorter. It also seems like it may have the aftermarket bottom sill flares. It has flag mirrors though...........hmmm. Is this a recent burn-out , and if so, what is going on with the remains? Inquiring minds want to know. What a shame either way.

This car is at the copart auction in dallas, will probably sell for $200 or so, add in a tanker (8000 gallons) of rubbing compound and a few teenagers that want to learn karate "Daniel'son, wax on...refta circle...wax off...righta circle" and it could be good as new again.

Hans bought it and used the engine and I think drive train in his GTS. I believe he is still officially the owner but doesn't have possession or something like that.
IIRC, it does have some interesting after market custom rear fenders. There are a few local interested in other parts but not sure about the limbo situation and haven't stuck my nose in it... lately.
