Default 928 single turbo?

When I search I only see twin turbo's, wondering if there are single turbo's out there and what kind of power they putting out. I don't think Id want a twin turbo Id be looking to make anywhere from 400-550 hp is this possible with a single turbo setup?

If you can fit it, it's a breeze to make 500 hp with a single turbo and 5.0L 32V V8. Hard not to make 500 hp once you get it installed. The trick is to fit it and the plumbing.

You can mid mount a turbo in front of the transmission or rear mount it where the old rear exhaust box is, there is plenty of room in either places and try to get a turbo that does no require external oiling lines as it will simplify the installation. I know there are threads on this, search is your best friend.

There's a few threads and pics of them - searching for "mid mount turbo" will probably bring some up. There was also a big thread about a rear-mount turbo setup which IIRC was from a kit vendor.

It'd be cool to do a rear mount turbo on a 928, plenty of space in the back for one. Apparently lag is not a problem if you study up on the technical aspects of a turbo (inducer/exducer sizing, housing) and therefore size it properly.

Does anyone offer a turbo kit for the 928? All I have seen are supercharger kits.

MJ, following are a couple:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-discount.html

Not sure if Mark is still selling the mid kits on not. I'm pretty sure John is still producing the twin down in Cincinnati.

Oh yeah, and there is this one:

Wow!..that kuhn twin turbo kit is insane! However at $13.500 and 60 hrs worth of installation time its out of my realm. How many out there have this kit installed and up and running? What kind of HP are they producing at the wheel? For that kind of money one could go the twin screw SC route, how do the two compare power output wise?

The other turbo, the Mark Robison one, im assuming is no longer available? I say this because when I followed the link to his Web page its not there.

With a very big one maybe and very much an early 'Porsche thing' to have a single turbo.

I don't think think lag would be as much an issue as with 911s which don't have the innate torque of the V8. But i am no expert on 928 turbo tech.

I've documented (well a bit fancy word for my output) some of the turbo-related adventures in this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...e-streets.html

That's correct. When you turbocharge a 5.0L V8, you may have 99 problems but the lag ain't one.

I have a single turbo 16v 928. It's currently off the road while the engine management is changed over to a stand alone system that I can tune. It will also be a flex-fuel vehicle so that I can run E85 when available.

Regarding Kuhn's turbo systems, they are top notch and well thought out. Here is a loooong thread detailing one rennlisters journey with the Kuhn system. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...e-streets.html

Tuomo has big plans for this car and the standard Kuhn stage 1 system, which put down over 570 RWHP, wasn't big enough for him. So he had Kuhn design an upgraded version that put down 711 RWHP on 93 octane pump gas. Now, he's going for "stage 3" which has much larger turbo's. If you have time, take a look at the build videos that explain the process here.

Stage 1

Stage 2

Kuhn could build you a single turbo but don't know if he would be interested in that. The only commercially available singles that were ever available was the on fromMark Robinson ( 928 Turbosports ) but if you talk to someone who had one, the system wasn't very refined. The other is the rear mount that was being offered by someone in the PacNW. I'm not sure who sells it but if you contact Rennlister "KillaV" , he could tell you. He has one on is car. Also, Colin in Canada can make you one but I'm not sure if he would sell it as a kit or not. He is"Lizard928" here on Rennlist.

EDIT: It looks like Tuomo answered while I was writing that up. Awesome!

I bought my rear mount turbo kit for P-9 Motorsports (they are located up in the Pacific Northwest). I did a brief search but could no longer locate their website.

Next month will be three years with the kit. The only thing I have had happen is the oil return pump failed on me several months ago, and I had a screw pop out of the charge pipe last third coast which allowed the boost pipe to hang down. Other than that, I have had zero problems. Car still runs great. Drives like a stock 928 until you don't want it to.

Edit: www.p9-m.com (This was the old website, which looks like it is no longer up).
