Came across this today in an old 911&Porsche World Magazine. Fred's been flying the 928 flag for a long time!

Thanks, Rob, and,

Good on ya, Fred.

Rob, any chance of scanning and posting the article from the September issue?

Bueller? Bueller? Anybody?

Wow- Rob just made my day!

Well- there's a "blast from the past". Proof positive of how long I have "been in the tank".

Indeed it is all about flying the flag. I had a Porsche factory driving instructer go Gaga at the Dubai Autodrome not to mention quite a few German citizens drooling with amazement when they hear my 928. The best was when I spanked the local lads in their turbo's and Boxsters at one of our autocross track days thanks to the tips of how to setup and drive the car optimally from Mr 928 himself- Kim Crumb. I have also had lots of support from the likes of Louie and Wally not mention our super 928 vendors and with the help of Earl Gilstrom my S4 was the second car in the world to have the Loctite solution applied to the flex plate clamp- still use it cheap SOB that I am. I also once managed to call the organisers of one of the open road race events to pass a message of good luck on to Marc and Susan in the Devek car which they received as they sat on the start line waiting to be flagged off!

The list is quite long and sad to say some no longer with us but they will live on in our memories as long as we draw breath.

Not sure there are too many cars you can own for some 14 years and still feel as passionate about- warts and all! Indeed I enjoy driving my [2nd] 928 just as much as ever and still lament the loss of my late '90 S4 6 years or so ago albeit her spirit lives on in my engine bay.

Unfortunately I do not think I have a copy of the article I wrote about. I believe I may have a copy of an article published in a local magazine about my S4 - I'll post that if I can find it.

Just goes to show what a tight knit bunch we are- just wish I had to opportunity to meet up with those I have known for so many years but have yet to meet face to face to offer a personal thanks for the friendship and amazing support over so many years. As and when I get out of the oil business in the not too distant future I would like to do a coast to coast tour of the US hopping from one 928 friend to another to just to shake their collective hands. Had it not been you folks out there I doubt I would still be in a 928 yet alone improving it [?] bit by bit.

Nowadays I do my best to help others joining the tank and amuse everyone else.

Regards

Fred

Although I only own my 928 since January 2011, like many others I have lusted after them since I was very young. The fact that there was an official Porsche center less than 1km from where I grew up in the Netherlands definately had lots to do with that too: I well remember all the different 928 models in the showroom from 1978 onwards (my nose inprint must have been a frequent feature on their showroom windows for all those years).
Ever since then I have been starting to collect information on the 928.

The connection to this thread is that I have the actual September 2000 "911 & Porsche" magazine in my hands while writting this, and a link to a scanned in version of pages 46-58 can for eample be found from here (thanks George!):

I have actually seen the car featured in that article and it is a cracker. No idea if the same chap still owns it- I have a feeling he sold it- Sir John might just know something of its current situation and no- Roger did not nick that one!
