Jarrod. I have more condenser shields for sale if you need or want one. $25 plus shipping.

If you read this thread - it's really quite obvious its not a coincidence - and we even know why...

You put the wrong relay in - sometimes the effect is much more catastrophic than this...

It's wise to avoid experimenting - or at least ask first - usually someone else did it already and can share their pain...

I'm confused - am I using the correct relay or not? 141.951.253B is the only relay I've installed.

You need a 53G. The 53B has no diode, as seen on the diagram on the side of the relay in your pic ihn your post.

It was a 53B (left in pic below) that I had that caused my initial problem and a defective, generic 53G (specifically 431 951 253 G) that continued it (right in pic below - see diode symbol above 85 in diagram).

BTW, I'm not sure what the difference is, if any, between 141 951 253 G vs. 431 951 253 G

Thanks, Martin. I'll get a 53G.

Thanks for the offer, Jeff. I'll pass at this time, as the proper relay should solve the problem.

Sorry finger trouble - meant to say "141.951.253G is indeed the correct relay with the diode"

Fixed it... must have been too late at night - OR too much wine...

I'd still add a separate diode & a regular relay if I were doing it...

I haven't though - because I don't like DRL functionality where only the front lights come on automatically... too many morons driving around with no rear lights on late at night because it all looks bright up front...

I see no need to feed this scenario by making myself a potential additional 'moron'. If my front lights go on automatically then the markers all round have to go on also...

Alan, The past research on DRL benefits is mixed. Several studies in Northern climates (e.g. Canada, Scandinavia with more hours of darkness) showed statistically significant reductions in accident rate. Not so in a pan-US study.

However, all those studies were before DRLs were mandated in some jurisdictions. I can tell you that in Canada where probably >98% of cars on the road now have DRLs, drivers seem anecdotally to have become less aware of cars without DRLs, especially low sports cars. They are now looking for lights, not cars.

I notice a distinct difference in the probability that they are aware of me when I am when driving one of my old, low, DRL-free, sports cars versus my Santa Fe or G35 - both with DRLs. This is why I feel I need to activate the DRLs on my 928s, altho some will say that RMBs will do the job...

In most modern cars DRLs do not turn on the dash lights, or if they do in the case of digital dashes, put the dash lights on full bright for daytime (that is the case with my G35 for example). Someone is doubly a "moron" (to use your term) if they drive at night with no dash lights, or with blinding dash lights, combined with poor road illumination... We do see the odd one in Canada, but not too many.

Thankfully automatic lights (again as on my G35 for example) are becoming more common and so eliminate a source of driver error.

As an aside, the LED DRLs on new Audis and Mercedes are almost objectionably bright. They seem to be not only saying, "Notice me," but, "Notice how I'm driving this expensive European car." There is definitely a marketing brand motivation on the part of the manufacturers. The new P-car LEDs are not as bad IMO - so far at least.

Ok, now I feel like a moron, but not for wanting to run DRL's. I had pulled the previously pictured 53B relay from what I thought was slot III, being right next to slots I & II. Alas, slot III is the top left position on the CE panel. After pulling THAT relay, I found the one posted below whose part number I had run across in a DRL thread from 2006. A proper Porsche 53G is on order from Roger. Can this relay can be used elsewhere, or should I just toss it in the trash?
