Default Checking transmission operating pressures 87 S4 4spd auto

When you remove the fittings and screw the test gauges into the various test ports on the side of the transmission case will fluid come out or is there some sort of check valve with a certain cracking pressure (ie. higher than ambient) that will open when the primary pump is operating/turning?

thanks.

anyone BTDT??

Tony,
I found when I removed the bolt of the test port only a dribble came out from a car that was sitting from the overnight. After I ran the test and detached, it ran out more briskly. Also I was doing the test on a failed dead transmission. My operating pressure was 50 % of what it should have been.

Forgot to state there was no check valve on the test port.

thanks. I have a transmission pressure tester that i ordered on line..it has a bunch of different fittings to go on the end. Did you find anything out of the ordinary as far as thread size etc. Its obviously a very common MB transmission so i would assume this tester has the correct fittings with it.

Guys,

What kind of tester did you buy?
Any link please?

I need to buy one of these to adjust the pressure correctly on mine too.

Thank you.

Tony, standard metric size. Had no problem at all.

Bertrand, I had bought the exact one Mike had posted above. Worked like a charm in my old failed transmission. Worked well on my refrigerator too. I like the two scales the gauges can measure to. The numerous fittings it comes with will work on all we would come up with.

That's a really nice kit, for a great price!

The fittings are 10 x 1.0mm, in the transmission case. It appears like those are included in that kit, from what I can see.

The passages do not have check valves, but leakage is minimal, Tony.

Tony:

That should work quite nicely, too. You actually do not need to "read" more than one pressure at the same time, anyway.

Couple notes above^^^^^, for you.

Default Will this work?

Found this at HF:

It reads as only an oil pressure tester; does that matter? It's got the M10 X 1 male fitting.
