Default Freon Capacity of GTS System?

I'm having my AC serviced.

The sticker on the radiatior indicates capacity of 2300 g but the tech's manual indicates something like 1800 g.

I have the rear AC system.

Any ideas?

I suspect that's the difference between the stock system front only and the optional (but delivered on almost all USA GTSs) with rear AC add-on.

With or without M570 High output air-conditioner? There is difference but both possibilities are much smaller than 1800 vs 2300g. Tech spec book says 950g of R12 for normal system and 1150g for M570.

For a '94 with an r134a system that has rear air, you want 1050 grams of r134a..

860 grams if no rear air. (How many US GTS's don't have rear air? Not many...)

EDIT: 32 without rear air, 374 with. 7.8% of U.S. GTS's.

Randy - just looked at mine (with rear air) 1050g & also listed 2.315 Lbs

(though its written as 2,315 Lbs ha! like to see someone try that!)

That's because in German the comma demarks the point where the whole numbers end and the period demarks groups of 1000.

Thanks, guys - recharged and blowing icy.

As Alan confirms, the radiator sticker indicates 2.31 lbs (equals 1050 grams per Rob) versus his book indicating 1.83 lbs.

He charged to the 2.31 lbs. amount.

All GTS are 134a from the factory - never r12.

Nope, '93s still used R12. Change to 134a was in '94 ...

I was going to be pedantic and change Randy's statement to

"All U.S. GTS are 134a from the factory - never r12."

'92 ROW GTS's were R12, all '93's (at least according to PET and the '93 Service Info Tech book) were R134a.

My 'late' '93 is R134a from the factory, for whatever that's worth.

Nope, '92 MY cars which include early '93 MY US model used R12. Change to R134a was done at begining of '93 MY which means all US '93 which do not have M718 option used it. This is from '93 MY changes document.

With the start of Model Year ‘93, all air conditioning systems will be charged with CFC-free refrigerant R134a (chemical designation: tetrafluoroethane (CH2FCF3)).
The former refrigerant R12 (chemical designation dichlorodifluoromethane (CCl2F2)) is no longer used.

That'll teach me to make an 'All' statement when it comes to the 928.

Seriously!

I wonder if this change happened at the same time they did the change in the crankcase breather system?

Doubt it, since my '93 is ~80 cars from the end of the US '93 production run and still had the 'early GTS' breather setup:

Ever seen an early '94 that still had Cup 1's and RDK? What breather setup did it have?

IIRC 10 94 cars had the Cup 1 wheels and RDK
