Nice car, Rob. And I agree, midnight blue metallic is the best color for a GTS.

The “frit line” you mention above. If it’s the area I’m thinking of, my GTS doesn’t have anything there either. A couple years ago, I bought some fuzzy rubber hose (similar to the seal on the sun roof) and wedged it in there. It now looks factory installed and covered what looked like the cardboard edge of the dash that could be seen in a couple gaps. I thought it was just a problem with my car but now you have me wondering. I just Googled "frit line" and didn't find anything on it.

In the picture below, the frit line is about 1/4 inch.
On the windshield I got from Porsche---928 541 011 11---for my 91 s4, the frit line is a few MM larger than one inch which should be enough to cover the gap.
Another weird thing is that the windshield in the GTS now appears to have an antenna which tells me its for up to model year 89.

In any event, its coming out and I'll replace it or paint on a new frit line if I have to.

Google "windshield frit line".

Its back from the detail shop, and I have to agree. Metallic Blue is the best.

Course technically mine is Dark Blue with a Champagne interior, but its close to Cashmere & I figured in your thread I shouldn't use that other "C"word!

Rob,
Great acquisition. On the eBay ad it states that the windshield was replaced. I guess they had extra parts left over when they were done.

And here I was looking forward to an upgrade!
The S4 is in the shop getting the windshield replaced & then its off to get the wheels straightened and balanced.
You may get your upgrade if its not back in time.

I wonder if it was the blue (midnight or cobalt?) GTS that was being parted out on eBay until someone figured out it's rarity and either stopped stripping it & put it back together or bought it outright to stop the slaughter (and then rebuilt it).

I know I was just one of many that sent that dismantler a "WTF...?" message on eBay to ask where his head was at!

Nice score Rob!

It's not the same one. There's a pretty good service history with the one I bought.

Beautiful car Rob! I tried to get James Morrison to buy it to complete his GTS collection but he chose a different one.

BTW, I did a thread on 'frit' lines and consensus opinion was that felt-looking strip is part of the dash that becomes exposed or revealed when the windshield is removed. Several guys posted they had their w/s replaced in the past and now have the dreaded 'frit'. It's also visible from inside the car, so not an issue of the glass.

You probably know better than anyone what the forward edge of the d-board is made of and if there's something up there that gets stuck to the w/s and comes off with it ...

Rob,
Great looking car, Midnight Blue Metalic is my favorite color and I plan on painting the Strosek that color. See you at Frenzy!
