Default FS: My beloved '85 Euro S 5 speed with Megasquirt -EVEN MORE LOWERED PRICE

I've decided it's time to finally sell my beloved shark. I've had many technical challenges with her, repaired everything successfully and even installed a fully mapable Megasquirt ECU with success. It's even that successful that it's very reliable in everyday use. During summertime, I almost use it daily to get to work (120 km a day). During winters and rainy seasons it's always been stored dry. Reason for sale is that the car has no more challenges to me; I’ve had almost every part in my hands, done all possible improvements to it, while keeping it either original or better than original without being noticeable to the inexperienced eye. I’m up to something new as challenge-car.

The list of goodies/activities I've done to this car is pretty extensive:

Motor/drivetrain
• Gearbox overhaul, incl. new synchro’s etc.
• Torque tube overhaul
• All brake callipers reconditioned with new seals, paint
• New front discs and pads
• New hand brake shoes
• Stainless steel braided brake hoses
• Adjustable Koni red’s shot with 600/400 springs including fully height adjustability
• Megasquirt V3 board with megasquirt–II processor
• Distributorless Ford EDIS ignition system
• New plugs and wires
• Innovate Motorsports Wideband lambda sensor module
• Bluetooth module for wireless connection to smartphone or tablet (running Windows or Android)
• Fully documented electrical system
• New motor mounts (Roger’s)
• Overhauled waterpump
• New distribution belt + rollers
• Roger’s distribution belt tension system
• Silicon sump seal
• Fully reconditioned cylinder heads (2x)
• 32v ’85 tubular exhaust manifolds (headers)
• Full 3 inch exhaust system, with professionally made Y-piece according to Lizard’s design. High quality race style absorption dampers used. Having the BEST sound you could imagine (this is what I’m gonna miss most!)
• Clutch overhaul
• New gearbox gearlever linkages front & back
• Reconditioned radiator (never sees the second white line even on hot days in a traffic jam)
• Dual radiator fan (one wired as original single one; other activated via relais by ECU)
• All new fuel hoses
• Adjustable fuel pressure regulator and dial
• Reconditioned fuel injectors
• Airpump delete

Suspension/brakes
• All brake callipers reconditioned with new seals, paint
• New front discs and pads
• New hand brake shoes
• Stainless steel braided brake hoses
• Adjustable Koni red’s shot with 600/400 springs including fully height adjustability
• Fully overhauled front suspension
• Powerflex A-arm bushes
• All nuts, bolts brackets in the front re-plated
• New power steering hoses and oil container

Interior:
• Central brake light LED
• Reconditioned interior (new leather parts: glove box lids front and rear, shifter boot, windshield surround)
• New gas stays for bonnet and boot
• Thermal and sound insulation inside bonnet
• Overhauled wiper motor
• New blower motor
• Overhauled blower motor resistor pack
• Fully sealed (no leakage) heater system
• New, high quality speakers build inside the original locations (so nothing done with hacksaw or ugly modern aftermarket shoved in there; see pictures)
• Many, many electrical gremlins solved and cured

The aircon pump is removed, since the system was non functional. The pump, hoses and brackets are still there. The rest of the system is still in the car (never bothered to fix it, since I don’t use it)

Most of the bills are still there. Including bills of the previous owner for external work done on the car (spray job etc.)

The car has done 295k kms, but looking at it and knowing all the technical work that has been done to it, you won’t notice… I’m willing to arrange for transport when sold abroad.

What more is there to say except pictures and asking price: €9500

Bart-Jan,

Why not keep it and turbocharge it instead!

Bart-Jan,

Why not keep it and turbocharge it instead!
I was thinking about the idea and that innitially was one of the reasons for squirting it; making it easier to tune with turbo(s), however I am not the kind of guy taking the car for Sunday afternoon drives. The car has to be practical to me for everyday use. It is reliable for everyday use, but fuel prices lead to paying 60 Euros a day when commuting to and back from work.

I've set my eyes on another practical performance car: Lotus Elise; I know... something totally different, but it's always been a car I loved and would want to own at some point in my life. Then I thought "Why wait?"... So that's the reason.

Ive made pictures of my Samsung tablet being connected to the Megasquirt ECU by Bleutooth; works like a dream! Realtime data of the engine is being sent to the tablet and all dials can be set and reconfigured to your own preference. Please check http://www.msdroid.com/ for more info.

The raindrops are mirrored in the screen, since it was raining outside when I took the picture. The tablet was laying on the dashboard with some adhesive, anti-slide mats underneath. With normal driving, it stays nicely on the dash.

That is a nice looking car, MS conversion is a nice touch too, well done!!! I love that color.

What mufflers are those?

How does a conversion like this work in Europe and the various countries when they inspect the car? As long as it passes the sniffer it's good to go?

What mufflers are those?
They are supplied by one of the best exhaust companies in my country: EPS Hoogezand. Dutch readers will recognise the name. The mufflers are packed with high quality, high temperature resistant dampening material. Also, 3 inch mufflers usually don't do so much in lowering the sound, because of the diamter. Therefore, inside the muffler, there are 3 smaller perforated tubes, surounded by dampening wool. In this way, there's no build up of pressure, but improved soudn deadening. It can be seen in this image:

The Y-piece was made after I've met Colin (Lizard) here in The Netherlands. He made a nice sketch with the correct dimensions for the Y-piece. The end result:

The car has to fullfill to the emisions rules that were applicable on the day of production of the car. I believe it's allowed to have over 3% of CO, but the car's around 1% with the new setup and with the air pump removed.
Now that it has fully controled back looped control with the wideband lambda sensor, even a catalytic converter can be impleneted, leading to the posibility of exporting it to Germany and having relatively low taxes to pay for it, since over there taxes are determined by the level of polution of a car.

Bart-Jan,

what type of fuel economy are you getting on the car (l/100 or MPG)?

Hi Colin,

I'm doing 20 MPG when using on the Highway with cruising speed of about 85 mph.
At this speed, it's even running a little lean, since there's no big load on the engine, nor high engine speeds.
