Torque tube removal with engine already out?

I still don't understand why you have to disconnect/remove almost the entire rear suspension and tranny just to remove the torque tube, is it simply for clearance to get the TT out? My motor is already out, all i can see that holds the torque tube in is it's 4 mounting bolts at each end and of course disconnect the driveshaft from the tranny. I wanted to remove it just for inspection, and it would make installing a Lizard shifter much easier.

As you have the engine out you no longer have the torque tube trapped between the motor and transmission, and you can easily remove it. Heaps easier to check bearings and work on the shifter assembly with it out.
When the motor is still in place you have to move the tranny back to get sufficient clearance to remove it.

PET's bolt count here is wrong, there are 6 bolts between the rear of the TT and the transmission. Don't be scratching your head when you've removed 4 and the thing won't come apart.

Auto has 4, 5 speed has 6. Due to the weakness in the 5 speed trans it needs more bolts

Hahahahah i love those memes. Anyone that's on Facebook here look up "car memes", they're normal popular memes but put to car stuff.
Anyways cool thanks Dave, Sean, and Rob for the verification and info, this is what i figured, with engine in place, not enough clearance to get the tube out. Glad to see my assumption was correct in the end. I just might take it out now.
