Too bad I didn't know about dry, brittle leather before that happened.

I'll likely try to save it with a combination of what MainePorsche suggested and what I read on the colorplus site.
Denny,
My interior is blue, but if oxeblood, i'd ship you a seat bottom. You should post you need one. But good luck with it. You made me think about a much older and wiser man than I that was way into an English car brand that won LeMans a few times in the '50s.

He advised using plain old Baby oil on very old dry leather to bring it back.

Recently, I used it on my 928's rear seats which were very dry at the tops from the sun. Boy it soaked it up. I used my hands, not even a cloth and kept re-applying each day til it was softer.

But, the point i would try and make is park your 928s in the shade whenever possible.

Craig, great thread, i really enjoy this type of work and learning from others doing it.

I'm behind where I wanted to be with the interior restoration. It has been rainy, humid, and dank up here for the last three days and my conditioning layer prep has not 'dried in' yet. Joanne from ColorPlus recommends applying liberally then parking in the hot sun for the uptake by the leather. Not possible now. I do not want to remove it with any agent to speed things up. I want full satiation of the leather's thirst. Did get first coat of colorant on the driver seat for that was the first one treated after finishing the passenger seat. I'm waiting on the rear seats and the leather on the rear console.

Finally got it done. Sorry for the lack of quality of the pics. My camera died and i used wife's iPhone. I am surprisingly happy with the result. I did the 4 seats, the rear AC console, and the two side panels. I know I missed the clean up of those spots on the driver's side quarter panel and the passenger side center console. When I saw them in the pic, I then saw to it. All other sites cleaned now.

Thanks Dave.
When I went out earlier in the car, I was wearing a pair of shorts. I didn't feel all the ripples in the leather and it feels incredibly soft and smooth.
Yes, it feels like a new car's seats.
I am very pleased.

i'm going to get a quote from this place for seats and dash. looks like there's a local one.

http://www.fibrenew.com/

do they do it without removing the dash and seats? although i do want to remove the seats to reflow the solder on the seat controllers anyway, i really DON'T want to remove the dash.

I don't know about the dash, but I would take the seats out to do the best job possible.
Not a big job realy. Also, would do the job myself.
But that's me.

Edit: Removing the seats depends of course of the seats condition.
If you only need to do the top section, there's no need to remove them.

Great work Craig, i didn't say before but that color hide has always been my favorite.
Never lucky enough to have it though. It really compliments a red 928, very exotic. Nice to see it brouht back.
pics look fine. -Matt

You're right Matt.
Very exotic and SO nice on a 928.
Mine is blue on blue. Not close at all to this...

Thanks Matt.
At times it was a tedious kid of job. Had to do contortions to reach areas while trying to do delicate pointing. I did the pointing first with a small brush. Then proceeded with the larger one (1.5"). A few times the pointing didn't go as wanted, but a little acetone on an alcohol swab cleaned it nicely. The seat levers on the inside of both front seats were the most tiresome to deal with. I had to lean across and try to finesse. The 'extra paint' there on the levers I let dry and then teased off with a small jewelers screwdriver.

Thanks a lot Stan.
Your critique, as always, is meaningful to a 928er.

Brief follow up to the seat restoration.
The Color Plus products are Great but I am having a little flaking, or non-adherence of the Colorant in three places on the two front seats. I have tried several maneuvers but the problem still remains.
I emailed Joanne Price at Color Plus and she responds back to me at 2200 hrs. with a lengthy discussion of the cause, a spot on description of symptoms I had not even mentioned to her, and finally the repair (of course the only maneuver I had not employed).
I write this to speak to the attentiveness of Joanne, and the quality of her person.
If you are considering leather restoration in your 928 I strongly recommend the Color Plus products, and dealing with the proprietor, the Honorable Joanne Price.
