Default Fender Sealant Type

I think this is the same stuff used to seal the fenders..seems to be the same stuff used on my motorhome exterior.
Can anyone confirm, not mentioned in my WSM

3M make a self adhesive mastic/sealant strip that is about 3mm thick x 20 - 25mm wide that gives the right setup/gap, and seems a good match for the original. I'll go searching and try and find some leftover to post a pic.

3M Stripcaulk is my weapon of choice. Body shop & auto paint supply stores carry it.

I am familiar, but not what was used here to seal up 928 fenders.
Must be removable which is obvious, but also seal large gaps (3/4").
It would also need to be applied by tube in a production scenario,
there are large gaps to fill in the upper rear corner of the wheel housing.

I examined it, looks like the same material used on the Motor home (good for 25 years) and used in general in RV biz to seal up exterior windows, doors, vents etc.. It has a paste-like consistency and does not harder but takes paint.
Thanks though.-Matt

You guys are right, this type of sealant (3M Stripcaulke) is used at the rear of the fender as seen in pic 1. Thanks.

In pic 2, you can see Porsche used a different material (along the long length) of 8 or so fender bolts. This is the material i was asking about. It is not as sticky and a light grey color. Used by the German car manufacturers (at least also on my '73 BMW 2002)

The very sticky 3M Stripcaulke type material interestingly is used where there are no bolts.

So both materials are needed for a factory correct install.

Thanks for your help, buying the 3M Stripcaulken also, looks like great stuff to have in the garage for sealing up the bell/starter
after a clutch inspection. -Matt
