"Hello World!" An Introduction...
Hello everyone! My name is Joseph ***, I'm a nineteen year old Oregonian who has loved Porsches all of his life, and as of just a couple of months ago I became a 928 owner! I bought Andre's 928. I've been lurking around the forum for awhile reading to my heart's content everyone's contributions and I've decided it's finally time for me participate.
So on to more interesting things: the car.
I love it! It has exceeded my every expectation. It handles better than anything I've ever driven, and it still amazes me how hard that motor, with over 210k miles on it, can pull.
So far all I have really done to it is change the oil, do various checks of all of the car, and give it a bath. Most everything on it seems well kept and fully functional. Although, I have found a few little nagging issues...
On my 9+ hours of driving back home I was acquainting myself with all of the little ***** and buttons on and around the dashboard. During that time I made the mistake of pressing the trip reset button while going over 70 on the freeway. Needless to say now neither the trip meter nor does the odometer work.
Cruise Control also stopped working after a few days of driving.
Heat only comes on when the windshield defrost is turned on.
Automatic climate control doesn't work at all.
Air Conditioning works reasonably well, but on really hots days it struggles to keep up.
It runs very rich. So much so that under full throttle it will misfire. I'm currently educating myself in all things L-Jetronic so I can start narrowing down the problem here...
There is also a disconcerting vibration that presents itself when traveling at speeds of 65-75 Mph. It seems to be coming from the passenger side front wheel. I think I have narrowed it down to the brake disc being slightly warped.
Lastly, the radio has a disc stuck in it, and it gets horribly FM reception. So it will need to be replaced.
And finally, here's the car:
First fillup!
My two babys...
And one more!

Welcome and congrats. Was wondering the other day if this car sold and was hoping it would go to someone who would take care of it. It looks like it has.

A little niglet we sometimes forget to pass to new owners- while you're playing with buttons don't hit the odo recent while moving.
Cruise going out and missing could be symptomatic of vac leak/running lean- have you smelled rich condition or seen black smoke?
Given some of the intermittent/oddly associated issues, hitting the ground points is a good idea, too.

Some items on the 928 do not work the way you might think...
For example, the HVAC "climate control" controls only the air temp. It does not automatically alter fan speed, whether AC is off or on, where the air comes out, etc.
The HVAC and cruise control are vacuum-operated. If the HVAC actuators leak, the cruise control might not work, so those problems might be related.
If the HVAC blower works only on DEFROST, the problem is likely to be the blower relay.

Joseph,
Welcome aboard, wish I had a 928 at 19!
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Search the forum first as you may find your answer.
Grounds and fuel lines should be the first things to do.
Don't be afraid to get dirty!

Welcome. I saw Andre's car for sale on here for a while. I'm glad it went to someone who will appreciate it.
The odo probably stripped "That Gear." Roger has them, and he's very easy to deal with. Even if he talks funny :P.
Dwayne's Garage has a very good writeup on pulling the pod and replacing the odo gear. I had no trouble following it. He has write-ups on a lot of other stuff too.

The climate control may be malfunctioning because the outside sensor is bad or disconnected. It is a fairly common reason for it not working.
Again, welcome and congrats on getting a well maintained, documented and loved car.

Thanks everyone for all of the warm welcomes and helpful wisdom!!
I also wanted to give a shout-out for Bill Ball, without the information and advice he gave me when looking at the car I might not have bought this beautiful 928 I call my own. So if you come across this, Bill, thanks again!

I bought my 81 as an early 16th birthday present to myself. Yours looks like it is in way better shape than mine and most other 928s of our vintage so you are way ahead of many of the original styled 928s out there. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions, there are a lot of very nice and very knowledgeable people here on rennlist. Just curious, could you tell us a few of the late model upgrades? I along with others would like to know what's in it .Remember, working on it is half the fun.
