Default Help with my 928

Hello fellow 928 owners and enthusiasts. My name is Jeff. I have a 1988 928 S4, and I have had it for about two years now. Timing belt and water pump were recent when I bought it. It is still under 100k miles. It has had new spark plugs, new air filter, new fuel harness, rebuilt maf sensor, cleaned injectors. It runs rich, and also has an american cat conv on it. Sometimes the engine boggles a little bit. I fear the cat might be clogged causing back pressure and boggling the engine down. Yesterday I took it for a drive, to keep the wheels spinning(weekly). The engine just shut off on me. Failed attempts at restarting. I want to say the fuel pump went bad. Or maybe a bad fuse. Im curious to know if there are any 928 mechanics that would be willing to come take a look at it, and maybe help with some maintenance. I'm at a loss of what to do, and I certainly will not be taking it to the dealership. This baby is real clean after a detail.

Jeff,
Welcome to the Tank.
Check the status of the ground cable for the battery. Large flat cable held down by wingnut behind tool tray.
Inspect down to battery and see if the end looks degraded. Down by the battery is where the degradation would occur first.

You should also put your car and where you are from in your signature.

But, if you're asking for local help wouldn't it make sense to put your location somewhere in your post? The "real clean after a detail" comment is very helpful

Haha, sorry I will get to it soon. I wanna get this thing up and running again. Just been real busy. I guess I thought my location data would be displayed in my profile or info based on my facebook login. Perhaps I will become a paid member and update everything. I seriously do not want to part with this vehicle but will consider selling if I can't handle the intensity. Thanks for the response, will get to this when I have more time. OFF TO FLORIDA.

Hi Lee , welcome

How about you just post it in your thread where your located so someone nearby can assist you,
also please the year of the car ( you did) and the transmission type it has,
the last thing you worked on,
and any other pertinent info that you can add.

Have you replaced the running relays?
They are all 53 relays and can be swapped with the horn relay
EZK
LH
Fuel pump
and replace the fuel pump fuse

OH dont forget to read the FAQ at the top of the page,
many of the questions you might think to ask can be answered here
