From the 89 928 S4 owner's manual page 81:
Car Jack
The car jack is located underneath the luggage compartment together with the collapsible spare tire. The tire is covered by a lid with a quick release catch.
On page 86 there is a photo of the jack in its felt pouch inside the spare with the air pump and some folded plastic sheets. There should be a couple of replacement V belts there as well, unless they have been used. The photo also shows the lug wrench stored in the well on the right side of the spare, resting on the tire rubber with one end under one of the tabs that the well cover is slid under. That's where I found my jack, etc.. That said, it will fit in the tools storage area as well, and I have found it stored there on other people's cars. Even if the spare has never been used, these items and the tool cover are removed to replace the battery at some point and often are placed back in the wrong location.

I have a triangle, too, behind the tools - which means I have no room for the compressor inside the spare wheel and so have to float the compressor in the hatch area, underneath 928s 'R' us replacement cargo net.
This is in an Australian-delivered 928 S4 MY88.
The triangle is very old and slightly mummified so maybe i should jettison it and re-shuffle things around to fit...

My jack is homeless, it resides in the rear passenger footwell. I have a 94 and it has the safety triangle in an orange sleeve that is strapped on behind the tools. The jack is in a cloth bag/sleeve and definitely doesn't fit behind the tools because of the safety triangle. It also doesn't fit inside the spare tire due to the air compressor taking most of the space.
When I got the car it was in the rear footwell. I have never seen another GTS that came with the safety triangle and noticed those cars also didn't have the rubber strap that secures the triangle.
Anyone on here also have the safety triangle, if so, where do you keep the jack...

My square factory pump fits perfectly within the circle of the spare. Belts are on top of the spare. There is no room for the felt bag with the spare. The jack resides comfortably behind the tool panel. The lug wrench is there comfortably as well. I have 4 large folded up triangles that reside in each pocket of luggage cover in pairs. I keep a large mag-lite and some batteries in the pockets as well. I also keep a nice black auto bag with cables, tools, bulbs, fuses, relays, etc.. I also have a factory first aid box in the back with one side velcroed to the quarter panel to keep it orderly. It has come in handy. I got it from dc auto when I had to get to 50 $ on an order of a small and very specific body part.
