Default Comment: Jim Doerr's Project Phone Dial

I’m doing this post to encourage members of the 928 community to take a serious look at Jim Doerr’s thread “928 Classics, Project Phone Dial - NEW 18" wheels available (ends Aug 8th)” The Kickstarter Project needs $9,000 in the next 7 days so that Jim can proceed with the next phase of product development. I am prompted to call your attention to this project because of a conversation I had with a good friend who is a former 928 owner, about my commitment to help fund the project; and why I thought it was important, even though I am not a big fan of the original phone dial wheel. My reason for supporting Jim is simple; I know Jim and I know he is a fine engineer and is committed to preserving the heritage of the 928. I am also a firm believer in America’s small businesses and when I have an opportunity to support an entrepreneur I do so. I have also seen the prototype “up close and personal” and it is truly a work of art. This is no third-world knock-off, this is the real deal.

As a result of that conversation, my friend – who no longer owns a 928 and doesn’t plan on owning another one – invested in the project. So I thought I’d reach out to the 928 community at large and ask all of you to think about committing just $5 or $10 or $25 or even $50 to make this happen. I don’t smoke but I think a pack of cigarettes is about 5 bucks, and an oil and filter change is about 50 bucks. To me, it’s not about the wheel or the money; it’s about helping those in our community who are trying to preserve the legacy of the 928 by bringing new or updated products to market. After all, if we don’t help each other… who is going to help us?

Think about it.

I've donated both time and money to quite a few projects, and decided to help with this one. I also know Jim Doerr personally and can attest to his passion for the Porsche 928 (reference his Rennlist thread on the search and restoration of Number 6).

Ladies and gentlemen get off your chairs and make a donation NOW before it's too late.

Jim,

Good luck with the project. I don't need any more wheels as I have several sets, and am not really crazy about the phone dials. However, I pledged to support the cause. I hope it is successful.

Best Regards,

Just pledged as I think this is a really important project to go through. It will bring more attention to the 928 and highlight what an amazing community of independent developers can do...
The 911 is saturated with after-market parts and it's been great in the recent couple of years to see what all the talented people have been making/crafting/moulding/fabricating for us all to buy; be it the leather from Robert Budd/Paul Champagne, Jerry Feather's work, Hans' speakers to name just a few and the 928 parts suppliers too.

This is a sensational community, glad to be part of it !!

Thanks Jerome for pulling this topic back up. This is a worthwhile effort for our community. The wheels are beautiful, and Jim's passion is unmatched. I put up $250 also, even though I already have phone dials on my car. I can see a time where I would want a more modern, larger set to keep the same classic style with the modern feel. Let's see if we can make this happen!

I'm impressed that SAE testing is being done, you have my support!

Thanks for posting this thread.

I chose "no reward" when donating, does that save project money by not shipping out a bunch of t-shirts and stuff?

Thank you Mike!

Great question.

We suggest making your reward selection starting from the second option ($5 or more).
This will allow us to include you on our website, thanking those who've backed the project! (Your contribution amount will be kept private)

Based on this frequent question: I'm looking to make a contribution and when I press the "Back This Project" button and get a list of options, the first option says "No Thanks". Is this what I should use?

My preference is that you be rewarded for your contribution to the project.
After all, as a backer you are now a part of it all!

Just pledged. I wish I could afford a whole set, but if this goes the distance it will be nice to have it as an option for an upgrade in the future. Good luck.
