I agree with the 5K minium cost estimate to refresh your 928. Verifiable service records are the key. I purchased my 87 S-4 on Feb. 2012 from a collector with a stack of records. Only problem was the service stopped in 2008 (TB/WP, tune up) because he lost interest and started spending more time with his other cars so it pretty much sat in the garage. He had it trailered once a year to get inspected and smogged ( CA.)
Beautiful car inside and out, but all hoses and lines needed to be replaced, intake refresh, TB/WP, oil change, radiator flush, torque tube/flex plate. I also replaced the motor mounts, shocks, thermostat, oil filler cap and waterbridge gaskets.
Put a high output alternator, new front splash guards. Also the LH ECU went out the 2nd day I had it so that was replaced as well. I had set aside a couple of grand for upgrades which quickly went. I decided to sell my vintage Triumph Spitfire to refresh the 928 in accordance with everything I had read on Rennlist.
Since you are a 928 owner, you probably have a pretty good idea of the $$$ I have dropped not counting LABOR to bring her up to a top of the line shark. It has been almost 18 months and I should finish up with everything by next Saturday.
These cars thrive on moving..not sitting in a garage. Good luck on your purchase get the pic's asap.
