Default Throttle cable mis-routed?-'87 S4

Friends,

Working on getting my '87 S4 sorted. One of the things that's not right is the way the gas pedal feels (like it's stuck in peanut butter). So I've poured over throttle adjustment threads and dug into the car the other day.

After removing the KD cable just to see if that was the one cable making it so difficult to move the throttle (it wasn't) I removed intake box and followed the throttle cable back, around the wheel and could see rust on one side of the cable. Getting a higher vantage I could see that it was rubbing against a mounting bracket.

See picture. The location is after the cable runs around the wheel and is approx mid-way is between the wheel and the intake. The cable is routed on the passenger side of the bracket, you can see the neat rut the cable has cut into the bracket. The rut is on the driver's side.

Sadi bracket's vertical member does seem to curve perhaps to allow for cable routing - I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be routed and the bracket needs to be adjusted toward the driver's side or if it's just plain routed wrong.

So my question is this. In order to correct this should I:

A. Remove AMM (somehow) in order to re-route cable/adjust bracket (if it is indeed adjustable by moving it over a quarter inch?

B. Take the intake mani off and take care of business? (The intake has been re-painted so it seems someone has taken this thing apart already and put it back together - wrong. I have no idea what they replaced or didn't replace when they removed the intake.

Thanks, Josh

That needs to be on the other side of that flange.

That bracket isn't there on later models, I assume it is just for protection (so that the cable doesn't rub the fuel hose next to it - in your pic on the right - on later models that part of the fuel line is metal). I would try to bend the bracket gently a bit wider so that the cable doesn't make contact. Then see if other measures are needed for a smoother pedal.

I just looked at my 12/86 built S4 and the cable comes very close to that bracket...but doesn't touch it. The cable is outside of that bracket, and the fuel hose is inside it. I replaced the hose and put it back the way I found it...I hope this is correct.

Hai,
Mine too is a 12/86 built S4. The cable is OUTSIDE and the fuel hose goes inside. I'm soon to change out the fuel line and regulator to the 'upgraded' threaded bottom port regulator and attaching one of Greg Brown's line to it, terminating at the cooler.

They're saying it is not routed properly. The cable should not run though the bracket. The fuel hose you see to the right should be inside the bracket.

Bonton,
It is not proper, the way you have it, hence you're apparent shearing.

Aryan,
That would be correct. Looks like the fellows at Zuffenhausen were thoughtful, again, to provide protection of vital elements.
