Metric to Standard Speedo

Metric to Standard Speedo
Good day all,
I am interested to know if anyone has experience converting ROW vehicle from Metric (kilometer) Speedo to Standard (Miles) on 1991 928s4.
I have found a replacement dash assembly, but I am curious about weather the odometer is in the computer or is it in the dash assembly? If it is in the computer will it plug and play or will it require reprogramming?
If it is in the dash assembly will it/can it be reprogrammed to indicate accurate miles?
Thanks for any insight you may have.

Hi D,
Everything is in the circuit board regarding the odometer. Unless it is new you cannot change the mileage. Even then it must be done within 250 miles of installation.
That is not to say someone may be able to access the CB and change it that knows how to do it.

Thanks Roger.
On my 1990 928 if I recall correctly.... in the digital part of the dash display I could toggle between statute miles and Kilometers (KPH) do you know if it goes the other way as well on the ROW cars? I am contemplating purchasing a ZZZ vin car for use in the US. I can live with the metric to keep the car origional but would like options.

I changed a ROW Km Display to a British Mph and Km display. I only changed the front part of the pod and retained the rear section which the circuit board sits in.
Works perfectly, however my mileage and digital dash information is still in Km, so L/100km rather than MPG etc.
I cannot swap between MPH and Km. Only the US cars had this option.

The CB numbers change a lot 89 through 95.
Last numbers were 92 through 95 - ROW 928 641 991 30 & US/Can 928 641 991 33.
It would be interesting to know if later ROW cars had the US/Can option of Metric/Imperial.
Any 92+ GTS owners that can comment please?

I wonder as the car was built for the Canadian market it cannot be set to imperial?
older cars/trucks (not 928s) used to have mph in the speedo background.....not anymore.

If you wish to change the speed indication from klm to mph you need to change the "face" of the Digital Dash/Cluster for one in "mph".
There is two types of "faces" one to suit automatic boxes and ones that suit manual boxes.
All digital dash faces are the same for all models from 1989 to 1995 manuals and autos and the PCBs are suitable for inputs from either the manual or auto cars.
The PCB soft wear was changed with various upgrades during the life of the digital dash cars 1989 to 1995. I have recently fitted a German GTS digital dash in my 1990 S4 Auto and I was able to change the German to English, but the klm were suitable for my car. However, the diagnostic of the digital dash has been modified from the 1989 model, is is not as complete as laid out in the Diagnostic Manual for the Digital Clusters.
When I fitted the replacement Digital Cluster it only had 1331 klms on the odometer, so I require to change the klms to my total done by my car.
If you don't want to remove the indicator needles to change the faces just change the face assembly in total and then install this onto your original dash with the PCB boards. The digital alarm icon indicators windows can also be retained as these are fed from the PCBs.
If you want you can get a full mph digital dash as a replacement, however, you will have to then change the odo meter reading to suit the miles on your car. IIRC there is a soft wear procedure to do this that has been posted on this site.
The reason for the change of my Digital Cluster was that I have a fault in the Trip Meters, stop watch, the average fuel consumption and the average speed. During my fault finding I borrowed a 1989 Digital Cluster from a manual car and I swapped out all of the above to isolate the fault to #2 PCB, but was unable to locate the fault at this juncture, hence the above information.
I hope this helps?
