Joe,
I have your 928. Thanks for taking such good care of it.
I hope you enjoy the Trans Am as much as I do the 928.

Sorry but that simply means your assometer needs to be recalibrated.... plus your car is NOT a Pontiac but a slightly disguised Camero and if you really like Cameros I know of a NEW 2002 stick shift with SLP options 800 miles yes 800 total for a mere 25 K ....

The next time was nearer to the start of a longer straight (back straight). He made up ground with his 400+ hp, and then completed the pass, but was slowing me down through the roller coaster and hog pen. He pulled away on the front straight, but I always caught up in each subsequent set of turns.
He was plenty fast in a straight line, but no way could he hang in the turns. And that's a much newer car than this, as well as one that was track prepped. Driver error? Maybe. But I'm a novice too. This was only my second DE.

I noticed the scooter guy was only wearing a helmet for safety. i was thinking, man, if he wipes out he is going to get really bloody and break some bones.

Have had supercharged Camaros, TA's, Mustangs, the G cars, etc including a hopped up Roush, at our autocross, with really good drivers too. The only cars that were any competition were BMW M3, and M5, Porsche GT3RS, Porsche Turbo with X51 package, Highly tuned Shelby Super Snake, a supercharged S2000. a completely stripped down highly modified older Mustang, and a Nissan GTR. The GTR was the only one that the driver didn't matter, it just accelerated sooo fast he could corner very slow and still set a fast time.
Overall not too bad for a old GTS to keep up with the likes of those. And that was before I did the GT cams.

The problem is, there really aren't a whole lot of places where we can reach the limits of that handling on the street, considering the speeds at which those limits occur. So pretty much any decent sports car is a blast to drive. My '66 mustang would pale in comparison to my 928; but was it fun to drive? You betcha. Same with the '76 280Z.

Another VIR story... I blew past an E63 AMG that was absurdly slow through the turns because I could carry a ton more speed onto the straights. Sure he could pull me a little in the straights (until about 90 mph) but he had absolutely no chance in the turns. I lapped him a few times. Dude's got over 500 hp! Is that car fun to drive? Sure. Is my 928 more fun? Hells yes!
To me, it comes down to what you're hoping to accomplish with your car, and what you hope to get out of it. For me, I want to be able to hold my own on a closed road course. Driving my 928 fast on the street is about pointless for me now after a few track days. Dangerous and not worth it. Not that I never do it, but I don't get nearly as much enjoyment out of it.

I got back into the Thunderbird SC, I own three now. I recently bought a 89 with 29k on it and am putting in a built motor in it. All forged, titanium large valves, scorpion roller rockers etc. It wasn't cheap but if it was a 928 engine it would have cost a lot more. Should be good for 350rwhp and 450tq. I am building a remote turbo SC and am shooting for 500rwhp for ORR!
This car will not be a DD but will be enjoyed! They are a blast to drive with the 5 spd.
I miss my 928!!!!!!!!!! I am in the process of looking at different ones and will be pulling the trigger on one soon. They are just awesome and it is not hard to appreciate all MY! I am one the forum all the time looking. I think it will be a 85/86 model with Mike Simards ITB's and some nasty cam's. Hey Mike I need to swing by your shop and say HI!

Exactly. At VIR, I had a modified recent Camaro SS (the latest body style) on my **** in a couple of straights. The first time, I gave him the pass sign, but we were just before the climbing esses. He waived off, but then disappeared from view for a while, as I accelerated away.

His car was nice looking in black same as the one in the video.
Big difference in suspension.
