I've been a member off and on since 93. President for 2 years. Only show and shine, way too much Politics. That's what made me join SCCA.
Your right though, you get that many people together and that personality will rise up.

I've been a PCA member on and off (mostly off) since 1998. The local chapter seems devoted primarily to autocross and track events, with a few local drives thrown in. I won't track my car, so most of their activities are of no interest to me. Additionally, they don't have any concours events which are what I enjoy most. They've never contacted me, but to be fair I've never reached out to them either.

The DFW 928 gang welcomed me with open arms about 5 years ago, so much so that I feel like an honorary Texan. Roger, Jim, Sean, Chuck and Richard are great ambassadors for the marque and the 928 in particular. I make it down to their get-togethers several times a year, as well as their 3rd Coast event. Between the camaraderie and support they've shown me, along with the knowledge base that is the Rennlist 928 Forum, I have no real need for the PCA.

Are you on Facebook? It's becoming an integral part of regular communication for the region. There are a number of coastal area folks that are on the FB page regularly too. https://www.facebook.com/groups/168399479825/

Nope, used to be and let it lapse as our DFW 928 club is more active and has a heck of a lot of fun. I talk weekly with several of the local PCA officers but I don't really see any benefit to re-joining.

Yes joined last year after attending a number of their events over the years as a non-member P car owner, always felt welcome and was encouraged to join and also do the DE's.
Andrew and I both write articles that are 928 centric for their local mag and they also tend to do more drive/dinners and non-working get together that Kristine enjoys.

I agree that every group has it's "my dog is bigger than yours..." people, but they are the few, most are just car nuts like me

I've been a member off and on for about 10 years. Always felt welcomed and encouraged at all PCA related events which are typically more "structured" events.

Recently at the Parade it dawned on me why the 928s doesn't receive much PCA press. They pander to their membership demographics and 928 owners aren't as active in PCA (for whatever reason) as say 356 or 911 guys.

If anything, 928 owners should feel fortunate because A) we have a great group/club/community/cult all are own... and B) our cars sport Porsche crests allowing us to play in all the P-car games.

Your thread reminded me that I've meaning to re-join. I just submitted my payment today, so after a decade or so lapse, I am now a member again.

My experience years ago in Houston was that there wasn't a lot of interest in the 928 among the PCA crowd. I also had young kids and not as much time for PCA activities. What I've seen lately is that there is now quite a bit of interest and respect for the 928 and several 911 owners buying 928s (like Keith who posted above).

There are also now regional monthly gatherings all over Houston, every Saturday, so it's very easy for me to go to my local regional gathering a few miles from my house, once a month. Another factor is that the Houston 928 crowd is really not active at all, and not very interested in social gatherings with a few exceptions, so the PCA offers another opportunity to socialize with other Porsche owners.

Been a member of the Redwood Region (unofficially known as the "Redwine Region") since '96.

I made the mistake of attending a Board meeting and they made me VP (Pres had resigned, VP moved up, so there was a vacancy). Went on to serve two terms as President.

I've also been the Concours chair for the last 14 years. I really don't have any interest in Concours, but our annual Concours at Ledson Winery is a Zone 7 event and someone needs to make it happen. I know how to do it, so I "produce" the event - I don't enter or judge.

928s are well respected in the Redwood Region mainly because several of us autocross regularly, so the 911 "snobs" know how capable 928s are. In fact, our most recent newsletter editor sold his GT3 and bought a S4 (of course the guy who bought the GT3 had to sell his 928 to buy the GT3....).

Redwood Region has about 500 members, some just do the social events, some just do tours, some just do competitive events. There is something for everyone. Any club is what you make it.

It's pretty much like any story from way back...lots of hours, drugs, booze, strippers. Conflicting personalities, one guy wanting to always do things his way, days and days on the road. The wives started interfering trying to be part of it.. Then we lost the web guy..never heard from him again, and from there it just crashed down hard .. At least that's how I remember it..

Very active in PCA! Track events, meetings, national events, etc... Our local club is putting together a trip to the 2014 24 Hour of LeMans. For whatever reason, 928 ownwers seem to be in few numbers within every PCA Region I have participated with and seemingly prefer to march to their own beat and herd together as a 928 group.

Thanks for that link Tom, I love how the Spiel magazine is laid out...great content too.

So you were part of the editorial board on 928 Forum? I love the article on "Euro 928-2002" in issue 3. To be able to talk to the men who put the 928 together let alone getting insight on things like synchros and a/t thrust bearings right from Jorg Austen (the man involved with 928 transaxle development) is just epic. I had asked Adam if I could post the article here since it's relevant today so that new members get a glimpse of this sort of info. I haven't heard back from him though.

Getting off topic here but very cool stuff...

I was. Had a lot of fun putting it together, but it was a lot of work (and Adam did the lions share of it)....

I don't think there is a problem with reposting the article here since they've been scanned and hosted by Rob Edwards already (page two of this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...y-updates.html).

I'm still a member. I believe I joined around 2008. I enjoy reading the monthly Panorama, but I generally steer clear of the Maverick region's publication [terrible in my opinion]. I agree with Roger that the Maverick region is not much fun for "enthusiasts."

...I also agree with Sean that the DFW 928 crew is off the charts fun.

I've been a member since '99, joined then because I received a discount for attending my first 928 event - Frenzy. Within a couple of years, I was involved in the Driver's Ed program of PCA, and you have to be a member to participate. That 'portion' of the PCA members are great - no one cares whether you have a rear engine, front engine, mid-engine car, or whether it is cooled by air and oil, or by water and oil. They just care that you want to experience a Porsche the way it was designed to be driven, and appreciate your participation - as long as you follow ALL THE RULES of the track (not something that necessarily happens regarding RULES of the road on public highways!). The driver of a $150K Cup car that was brought to the track via an 18 wheeler is always open to chat and maybe even develop a friendship. My experience at the monthly meetings is the 'social' members there are pretty much described by Roger's comments!

Since the only Porsche's I've owned are 928's, I can't really speak for how other model owners are accepted by the 'social' type members.

The most interesting part of driving a 928 on the track is the response from similar vintage 911's that you pass during an outing. A real sports car isn't supposed to be passed by the dentist's wife's car. But, they have always come around to chat a while, and do not demean a non-911 in any way that I've seen.

Gary-
