Smile NEW rear wheel liners - '94 GTS

I just completed installing new wheel liners from Jerry Feather in both rear wheel wells of my car yesterday. The original ones made of treated cardboard and foam with lead filling (they seemed like that) had completely deteriorated in 81K miles, and I was reluctant to do much driving until I could get the PSD system protected. My opinion - they fit 99+% perfectly, and fully fill the wheel well, protecting everything. And - installation is quite straight forward.

My set seems to have been #9 in Jerry's production, and if not THE first, one of the first that has been installed without Jerry doing the installation or managing it for a customer. (something about a Function this past weekend, made him unavailable here in PA! - ha). Anyway, his instructions are thorough and easy to follow. Having about 65 years of 'shade tree mechanic' background, I couldn't resist adopting a few modifications here and there to simplify the installation, but that's just me.

Once installed, they are VERY firmly held in place, MUCH more solidly than the OE ones were - even when new. Mine are the 'insulated' type, and I haven't driven the car yet to determine tire/road noise, but I'm very happy with the way they are going to protect the vital components back there behind the rear tires, since the tires are always throwing 'stuff' at them.

Happy Camper - thanks Jerry, I know it was a LONG struggle to get there, but the final product is well done.

They were never made to protect anything the vertical splash shields did that.
The SOLE purpose of the liners was for sound attenuation and nothing else - period.
Interested to know the decibel ratings before and after?

Solid also concerns me as solid or hard means noise. The softer material on the originals would be much better at noise attenuation.
The new material and closed cell special foam on the Porsche ones seems well thought out - as for life ask me in 20 years.

After fitting the new Porsche liners the sound attenuation was very noticeable.
Just waiting for the new stock of GTS left liners any day now.

Hi Gary,

I was getting ready to make a similar post. I just finished installing Jerry's liners, and also wondered if I was the was the first to self-install them. My production number was 8 and I finished last Sunday. So did I beat you?

I found the liners easy to install. You have to trial-fit and remove them several times, but that's par for the course on this sort of thing. The quality and appearance is great, and Jerry was very supportive.

I agree that the partial liners are sufficient for protection, but I think looks are important as well as sound isolation. Granted, they are not stock, but they sure look better than partial liners or nonthing at all. And I choke on the price of the factory liners, especially when it's not clear how long they will last.

I bought the liners without soundproofing, but plan to try some sound treatments that I expect will make a significant improvement.

I plan to post some pictures, but haven't extracted them from my wife's camera yet. I'll do that soon.

Do these liners only fit the GTS? I have a 91' S4. My rear liners are crumbling into pieces.

I have a little bit to do yet to be sure that the form I have developed for the outer half of these for the earlier cars--Pre-GTS--will fit, and then these WW Liners will be available for 91 GT and S4 Cars. Stay tuned for those.

Then I have to devise another mounting bracket for the 90 and earlier S4s and GT cars which do not have the top two mounting points that the 91 and later cars all seem to have.

I got busy with the 928 Function at the Junction in the last couple of weeks, but I'll be filling the GTS orders that I have in the next week or so.

Thanks Gary, for posting your informative update on your installation. I'm pleased that your installation went well. I think you will find that the noise reduction is at least as good as the Factory liners. Thanks again.

I removed the drives side wheel well cover yesterday to flush the PSD and except for some of the clips breaking, the liner looks and feels brand new. I'm not sure how long ago Tony installed these, but they look great. I expect these to last a long time.

Looks like Emo has yet another burr under his saddle...

I had Jerry's liners installed by the Man himself. Excellent.

Any new thoughts, 3 years later, Rog?

Send me your mailing address and I'll send you a handful of new clips. Or, I'll be coming over there an about a week and a half and I'll bring you some.

P.S. Did you get the clip removal pliers that I made and included with Tony's set, from him with the car? If not, I'll bring or send you those also.

Thanks for the plugs on my Rear WW Liners, Tomkat and Randy. I am still making these for the 928 and in fact have three pending orders right now. I'll be doing the basic forming for those this weekend so that I'll be in a better position to finish them up and fab the brackets and gather all of it up to ship shortly after I have my surgery which is now scheduled for June 1. These orders are for the GTS (2) and one set for the 91 GT. I still have not devised the rear upper right bracket for mounting these in anything before 91. I still plan to do that but just haven't yet.

My price for these is $900 for the set, and in the rare occasion that I might be able to go to help install them, my fee for that is $250. I think I'll be doing that with the 91 GT set, probably later in June.

Thanks Jerry. Always going the extra mile in customer service. I will be out of town starting the 29th for a couple of weeks, so it doesn't look like we can meet. I don't have the tool, just used a plastic trim tool that worked pretty well. I will message you my address and any time you are in town let me know.
