Maybe it is a good thing that the radiator price has gone from ridiculous to ludicrous... now it may be much more feasible for someone to step in and make an aftermarket radiator that fits perfectly and accepts plastic end tanks.

Roger, Mark, Carl or Mr. Pelican Man – Can any of you guys explain what drives Porsche to do this? Are actuaries looking at some metric to determine these increases or is it really as simple as supply/demand--or based on what’s left in stock?? Something drove someone to say “yeah, 87% markup on radiators this month—good call.” Since the radiators aren’t in production, there wasn’t an increase in manufacturing cost so I'm guessing that's 87% pure profit.

No actual knowledge on the matter, but would assume as the inventory level goes down, Porsche contracts to have new ones manufactured and get the new prices that they then make as base price for even stock on hand.

There is no rhyme or reason to what they do - it is just a bean counter mentality when it comes to pricing. Most of our parts are "Porsche Classic" pricing and get increased 1% or 2% every so often. I sell all Porsche parts so if you think we have problems look at Carrera GT parts prices and the changes they see - it makes your eyes water. Try buying a new computer module for a Cayenne - the price of a rebuilt 928 LH suddenly looks very cheap and reasonable.
There is a direct relationship with new purchase of parts and a new price. As long as it in stock the price does not change apart from annual inflation increases.
As for the doubling of the radiator prices you would think they are capitalizing on the market - I really do not think they are that clever or have the time to look at minutia at our level.

Double apologies.
1st apology: to all USA-based 928 Rennlister addicts. It was me who ordered in early July - what turned out to be - the last existing in any Porsche North America warehouse (in fact: it came from their Ontario, CA warehouse) new Behr radiator (part number: 928 106 042 03), via Pelican.
As it was the very last one, it was sold to me for the "old price" (which compared to the now new pricing feels to be almost "cheap", even with import taxes and duties in Finland being close to +30% of total price - including the shipping costs. The new price in Europe is now close to 2000 EUR).
2nd apology: to Mark Anderson. I forgot to check with you upfront , and your unbeatable offer of $995 must have made 3 Rennlister very happy (as I already had agreed with Pelican, I decided not to stop that order as my word is my word. You can call me "old fashioned" in that way.).
Got it release from Finnish customs yesterday, see underneath pictures (and yes: a very minor shipping "damage" did happened, see top right corner = ~2mm denting/pushed in, however nothing structural wrong anywhere = all OK for me).
Shipped from Porsche Germany to Porsche USA on 8th April 2011:
And production date by Behr on 7th March 2011:
