Grille verticals for OBs - broken again!!
Hey guys:
The car is a US-spec ’86 928S, guards with black leather.
I just noticed that the grille verticals are broken (again) and it’s painful to think of spending the $$ for the crappy part that’s been so fragile over the years.
Are there options? 928 International seems to sell a reproduced version of the original; most other sources have NLA listed on the web sites.
The part numbers are 928 559 139 02 for the left and right and 928 559 137 02 for the center, I think.
While I’ll reluctantly pay for the originals, if there are no options, what I’d really like is an improved part that fits as well as the original but isn’t so fragile.
TIA,

Before I bought a set from 928intl. I reinforced the broken ones. What I used were thin strips of roofing flashing.
Something that may fix the broken parts (if you have them) is a product called 'Q-Bond'. I just used this on backwash valve for our pool. This stuff is pretty darn cool. You put a powder on one piece and crazy glue on other. Put pieces together and done. You must be precise because if the two pieces just touch they are set and cannot be moved. Anyway it may be worth a try before buying new. Cost was about $20 from paint store.

Since "OB" is "unofficial" anyway, I'm sticking with OB = Original Body style = Pre '87.

I got the center one from 928 International. Something like $30.
It's not perfect, there are some bubbles and mold imperfections. They are pretty innocuous, you'd have to lay on the ground and get really close to see them.
And it fit into all the slots and holes and such perfectly.
It turns out that I'm missing one of the horizontals too (only have 2, not 3). The next order I put together for them will include it.

Both the left and right verticals are from Porsche and we sell for $22.50 each.
As the center is NLA I sell the reproduction from Mark at 928 International for $26.62
The horizontals are all the same and again from Porsche $35.90 each
They fit all the OB's 77 to 86 8>)

I want to install my grills but am afraid as soon I do I will hit a possum or skunk.

Wisconsin Joe---As it turns out I have an extra grill horizontal bar. I'll have to look and see which extra one I have but, if you want it PM me and we'll set something up. OK?

Bump & update - it ends very well
To my 100% surprise an eBay auction had the entire assembly in an auction (not buy-it-now) about a month ago. $35!! The price went to $195, with some help from me, in the last 2 minutes. Drat! Foiled again.
I sourced new verticals from Roger, along with some other stuff, one new horizontal from 928 International and reinstalled everything this morning. Every fastener, every clip, every washer is right where it's supposed to be. And I'm backing into a record number of parking spots.
Our suppliers have been 100% helpful, as always, and one small victory for one more 928 goes up on the board.
Counting everything separately, there are a minimum of 42 parts in the grille assembly. I just have to think that this is some kind of record.
I'm getting ready for a 4,000 mile trip late in October. Not sure if this helps or hurts, but after 7-1/2 years, and countless maintenance campaigns, and nearly uncountable $$ spent, it's time to get busy living or get busy dying with this car.
Thanks to all for your priceless help in owning this car and keeping it running. It would be long, long gone w/out the Rennlisters!
