Default Suggestions requested please

I am trying to replace the window guide on the drivers side. This is the small triangular piece on the outside of the window frame. The previous owner had glued the old one on when it broke and I wish to make this correct.
I am trying to get to the mounting screw but am only succeeding in damaging my window felt/rubber.

Has anyone done this task before and can you please share some suggestions on how?

In advance, thanks
Glenn

Do you have the new triangle and screw already and are you simply trying to install these in the original location?

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I have the new part and even the new screw. It is just trying to get to the old screw (to remove) that is giving me the challenge. As I pry back the stripping, I am finding that I am doing damage to the stripping and still have not removed the screw.
Do I need to remove ALL the felt window stripping in the window channel first or is there some trick to get to the screw and getting the new piece installed.

It seems to be such a simple task ... yet I find myself struggling to get this done without having to purchase all new stripping ...as I damage the existing.

Again, any suggestions from someone that already won this battle would be appreciated.

The screw is mounted vertically. The head is where the glass edge hits the frame. So unscrew the screw and it just comes out.
Hope that helps.

When you replace the screw, make sure it is screwed the whole way in.

Had some body work done years ago. The shop that did the work had to remove the window trim. After I got the car back, the first time I put the windows down I noticed that a dime sized divot chipped out of the top edge of the passenger side window.

Went back to the shop and they said "oh yeah, we ran the window up and it hit the screw head." Guess they thought I wouldn't notice... Morons bought me a new window.

Shouldn't have to remove any weatherstripping, the screw is a 'straight shot' and should be retrievable/install-able by putting a #1 (#2?) Philips screwdriver bit in there and removing it. Keep some pressure on the bit to keep it bottomed so it doesn't skip and strip....

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I am feeling a bit foolish.

I got the new window guide installed. Just needed to remove all the glue that the previous owner used to glue down the broken one. Once all the glue was removed, there was the screw.

All fixed and the screws tightened snugly - should not have to worry about chipping the window - great suggestion!

Thanks again
Glenn
