928 RS Concept Sketch

Someone in the 924/931/944/951/968 Forum came up with a bracket to remove the headlight motor mechanism, but allowed the headlights to be easily manually lifted and locked into place. Maybe something along those lines?
Here's the thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...-page-4-a.html
Edit: In revisiting the thread, the designer was looking for someone with a 928 to serve as a guinea pig for an appropriate verson.

Thanks Shawn, i will look into that.
Here are two pics of weight difference between mirrors.
Flag mirror weighs in over 4 pounds w/o wiring. RSR; 6.8 oz.

Matt,
On the headlights, I removed the motor on my car and use a "custom" brace to hold the lights up on the rare occasions when I have to drive at night. After removing the motor, I cut off some of the supporting bracket and installed a bolt:
Then just cut and drilled out a piece of aluminum angle stock:
and this supports the lights:
And the final photo of the finished setup:
I did this mainly to get some room for an auxiliary air filter for the supercharger intake.

Thanks jorj7, I think i may leave the lift mechanism alone and return to the original plan of lightening the component parts by drilling as neatly (and with symmetry side to side) as i can. (Lot of time on the drill press)
Flipping those lights up at night is pretty cool every time. Thanks again, you have good ideas, keep em coming..

How about a manual choke cable extended to the headlight arm? Feed it through the firewall and install it somewhere around the hood latch handle.

We think alike, i have wondered if the hood release cable could be use to lift the lamps. Think it may become too track car though..
My Little Buddy and I finished up the hood and hatch pin supports, no seam seal will be used over welds in RSR fashion.
Matthew (Jack) will help me finish pulling everything out of the interior tomorrow, then we begin installing the hood vents and drilling the hood to lighten it a bit, thinking they (vents)should be neatly riveted to hood but i do have aluminum brazing rods, what do you all think about exposed rivets? (painted Gulf Blue though)
We're pushing to get something done, going to Knobel's Amusement Park Wednesday for a few days out in Central Pennsylvania, very cool place, highly recommend it.

Love Knoebels.
I also love the idea of securing the rear hatch with hood pins. Too clever by half.

I had never heard of it. Fun and reasonably priced.
2.25 hrs today with Boy removing interior, got 1/2 done. Slow going he's 10 going on 11 and it's time to learn how to use hand tools.. but i seem to stay focused when he's w/me so it balances out.
FYI, for those that are interested: ( I only count what will not be reinstalled).
Deleted rear seats and sound deadening under them as well as the foam behind the quarter trim panels. I was surprised how heavy the stuff below the seats is.
Sound deadening below seats plus metal pivot brackets
removed 24 lbs
Sound deadening behind rear quarters only about 5 lbs.
Sound deadening rear over fuel tank 3 lbs.
Rear Seats delete 35 lbs
I plan to lightly pad/carpet the seating areas (Like an RSA) and install 5 point harnesses so i can take the kids still. Lots of room back there now actually.
Next will likely be headliner to prep for Sunroof Delete.
Fun project.

How would you do that - thread the harness through a child seat? I want to delete the rear seats, too, but be able to put in a child or "racing" seat when needed.
