Hey Matt
If Tony doesnt end up wanting those Areo covers let me know, i could use them as i just installed a used set and there the wrong color. Gave them the rattle can treatment for now but not the best match. The covers would be a good band-aid till i can get them professionaly done.
Thanks
Mj

I think your duck tail looks a tad on the small side. The duck tail on the 911 is a little more pronounced in comparison with the overall shape of the car. Of course, I'm not sure that you could have made it much larger without it looking cartoonish, since the vertical height of the 911 duck tail is appropriate for the more pronounced verticality of the 911.
You want to do lunch sometime? I'm up in the Wilkes-Barre area, but my son lives in Warrington and my wife's family is across the Delaware in Jersey, so I'm down your way two or three times a month.

Re 911 RS; I agree, 928 rear is much higher and better aero shape than mid '60s 911 design-which creates a lot of lift w/o a wing, 911 profile is more like an airplane wing. My now gone Carrera was scary light in the rear above 120mph (no wing). Front is an active shape which creates a lot of down force though.
I thought this 928 ducktail size would be better as rendered in drawing. I started with the factory heavy rubber S wing shape. I don't think i'd be able to see behind me if mine was that 911RS ducktail tall, it would probably create a lot of drag too, but would have looked the part for sure. The angle of the 911 rear end allows for such a pronounced wing design, 928 rear is much higher to start with. Good eye.
I wanted to NOTE: I won't be butchering the unit body of my '83S at all by drilling and or cutting out material. The car is what it is.
Only drilling or cutting for lightness will happen to Hatch, Doors, and Hood and most of this will not be seen. Sunroof will be removed however for RS authenticity..

Sorry MJ..
I was thinking that i should have my 951 Phonedials finished like the Fuchs above, there is a RL and Pelican member named Neil with a beautiful light Cashmere colored '80 928 with this finish on his Phonedials from the factory. I know he has owned it since new.
Also was thinking that after the hatch frame is painted and before the interior trim panels are re installed I should cover these drill holes along the side of hatch frame with clear 3M film to keep water and debris out. Rectangular cut outs along the bottom of hatch will not be seen they will be covered by the interior trim panel. Trim panel attachment points (just holes) have not been removed.
More RS Design Notes;
Tony77 told me to look into a "S" style front bumper cover rather than add the weight back with the stock front spoiler. (mine was pretty bad and was thrown out) Tony also mentioned adding an oil cooler behind the front grill slats for added RS flare. I think this is a great idea. I would like an oil cooler up front.
I will try and work out a unique RS front spoiler in fiberglass and forget the stock S spoiler for now. I will remove the grill slats entirely though and install an alum oil cooler. Thanks Tony

Splitters
Wanted to document the roughed out shape of these splitters.
Will allow added 'S' brake cooling and will add down force (inverted wing shape in profile). These will be on each side not spanning the center air opening of the front bumper cover.
Will shape and glass this week, test fit and finish, photograph.

Hey Lone Ranger, you need more weight reduction, take out the buckets and just put this in for the driver:

I think I'll need more lateral support Cowboy.
Stripping paint, Instrument cluster will be here soon, RS logo added and Volt and Temp gauges repaired, left rev limit alone.
Going to repair and cover my pod and dash with navy suede.
Will tune in when i have more done.

Imo000, here are pics of splitters. Can be used to create down force if spaced or held off the lower valence to allow air flow or be flipped over and used on the opposite sides & held tight to valence to be used as splitters. With these i simply finish shaped them and applied 6 reinforced resin coats. They are fether light and very stong, no need to make 2 mold halves and join. Will show duel function of splitters when i have the time, taking kids back and forth to Shore all month. Haven't had a lot of time to get much done.
Also,
Received my instruments back in the mail before we left town, Came back with a deep scratch in the lens and 2 damaged areas to my NLA printed circuiit. couldn't believe my eyes. Very unhappy with North Hollywood. That is all I will say regarding this but here is much more.
I am sanding the lens to see if i can salvage it.
Not sending it or anything back to them.
I remove the UNLEADED ONLY sticker from lens while sanding and will replace it with a:
DEPRESS CLUTCH FULLY BETWEEN SHIFTS.
Going back to the Beach

That is a bummer on the plastic instrument lens. I have a kit of abrasive cloth used to polish plastic like that (a series with the finest grit 12000- developed for polishing aircraft windshields) that I would be glad to lend you- I think it would take that scratch right out! One odd thing, the curve of that scratch really reminds me of ROG100's (928srus) logo...

Martin, I wet sanded from 600 to 2500 and polished with my paint polishing product and it looks very nice but i would like to know more about your kit. PM me, and thanks.
While at Shore sketching thoughts on hatch lexan and head lamps.
Was thinking it would be nice to rid the RS of the entire headlamp lift mechanism, but doing what i sketched looks very tricky.
I may look into small aftermarket fixed lamps, but the lamp design is a big 928 design detail to mess with, want to think some more and look at what Porsche did with the 935s and 924 Carreras..
Got a few hours in today, came home yesterday.
Gulf Blue Urethane Enamel came, bought 3 gallons so i have it and will match in future if additions or repairs are made. They say it would always match but if too much time passes (1 year) the color mix could be different enough that you'd be in trouble.
RSR mirrors came, need to work out attachment. This alone saves 8 lbs plus wiring to be removed.
RSR style hood and hatch stands are fit. This only saves 1.6 lbs but works well enough for me.
