So if there are roughly two times the quantity of 5spd S4s to GTs, what is the number of S4s with LSD? Would this bring the numbers more in line to GTs? Trying to compare apples and apples.

Thanks Gary! But I haven't had the pleasure of driving this car yet!

But I'd suggest putting into another thread so that we don't sidetrack this superb 89 GT/S4 discussion.
Will do, thanks!

128 of the North American 5-speed 89 S4's had LSD (option 220)

Of those, 41 also had Sports suspension (option 474)

On this very interesting topic I am surprised.

I have been using the very useful gear ratio calculator that I found my by Flying Dog. It indicates that ROW S4 are geared like US S4s. Except in the 89, when USA got the 2.6 rear end.

Earlier in this thread I read that 87, 88, and 89 ROW S4 have the 2.6 rear end.

Which is true?

All '87-89 ROW S4 5-speed use G28/12 which has 2.64 diff.

ROW '85-86 S 5-speed G28/10 is almost same box as '89 GT G28/55 as it has same gears and 2.73 ring and pinion. Main differences are that can have open diff and don't have more efficient ring and pinion gear design.

So that means that the attached picture is wrong. I might try to dig into the macro here to see, if I can change it.
