cracked pintle caps
What is the effect when injector caps are cracked? I am starting an upper refresh on one of the 86.5's and found 3 of the 4 caps on the passenger side in very poor condition. The car has had a hard hot start problem and I am hoping this work may solve the problem. I will also be checking the idle stabilizer but not sure what to look for.
Is there any recommendation on injector cleaning? Whichhunter is one, but not sure if there are others. Are there any other things to do while top is off?

AFAIK, the pintle cap somehow helps reduce deposits collecting on the injector tip. See page 3 in the link below.

WitchHunter seems to be very good and will replace the pintle cap and o-rings as part of the service. Considering the cost of these parts, the cleaning service is almost free.
Of course with the intake off, there are lots of WYAIT things you could do. The CPS, knock sensors, throttle shaft bearings and "seals" (if you document leaks there), ISV, various vacuum hoses, clean up injector grounds, replace injector plugs if they're missing wire clips or the harness wires or boots are brittle.
The ISV should be clean inside and the door should move freely with no binding.

Not a detour at all. Will be pulling the isv odd body to test tomorrow (not sure how but will find out) and hopefully it just needs a cleaning. What was turn around time for witchhunter?
