Just a little background... When the 928 was designed, they thought that if the car comes with air conditioning, nobody would want a sunroof - after all, it's much quieter to drive with the AC, there is less draft, and you can use it even at the highest speeds. Well, obviously, they were wrong. But they didn't realize it until it was too late to change. So they added a small sunroof that took a lot of headroom - that's all they could fit. At the time, there were no sunroofs that would open to the outside of the roof, such as the 991 sun roof.

Your only real option is to have the roof replaced with a non-sunroof panel, and replace the headliner with a matching piece. The parts should be available easily, but I don't know how good the body and paint shops are where you are...

Lay that seat back, arm out the window and cruise gangsta style !

Seriously though, I'm 5"9 and I sometimes brush my head also.

Right... The rails changed. 993 and before work. Not sure the low end but all 944-series seats work.

I got mechanical seats out of a 924 (seriously) and they are much lower. I also found some aluminum block stand-offs when removing the old seats that made the seat higher. From the looks of them they just boosted the height. If you had them you'd have found them.

So, after a long while....
I ended up shaving the foam in the lower cushion by 1.5 inches or so and perfect fit!

Nice! Do you have any pics you could share?

How does the seat cushion look, is there any obvious wrinkling of the leather, or did you manage to somehow snug up the leather seat bottom?

At 6'6" I've been through a bunch of seats and steering wheels and have not found a good solution to gain headroom.

Trimming a donor "sacrificial" stock 8 way seat has been on my mind for some time now.

At the DFW-area OCIC a few summers ago, Paul C was showing some of the work he does rebuilding the cushions on older seats. He uses a sandwich of a few different foam densities to get the support right. It might be worthwhile getting with him and/or Rob Budd to see how they would approach the idea of shortening the bottom cushions. With less pillow under there, I'd think that you'd probably want something a little firmer. Talk to the experts!

Profound apologies for the late answer.

I took it to an upholsterer here in my town who took 1.5 of foam from the lower foam cushion. I'll try to get a better explanation from him today.

It did not make a huge difference , but enough for me not to hit the roof, and I am only 6ft. Granted I sit very upright so that makes a difference.

I am in the process of recovering the seats from my 79. I am using memory foam in the seating area, firm foam in the two sections of lumbar, and gel foam in the top two sections of the back. I have been trying to take lots of pictures along the way. It is one of those "when I get around to it" type projects. I expect the memory foam will compress more than the factory foam in the seating area, yet will fully recover for a nice full look when relaxed.
Separate thread when complete.
