Default Rear Muffler Delete: US '83S?

Before I cut I'd thought I'd ask,

is there is a known lighter alternative (i.e. a specific Magnaflow part) for a rear muffler for those of us with US 16V 928s up to 1984.

I tried something months age and it ran very bad so i welded stock muffler back up. It is just such a big heavy item, i would like to replace it with something. My '83S is basically stock.

Matt, I bought the magnaflow resonator and muffler. They are both extremely light, the muffler is way lighter than the pumpkin. I do not have the muffler installed yet, but I do not like the sound with just the resonator....it looks like a tight fit, but it's the same one Leo is using.

Sounds very good Ron, part number of just the muffler when u get a chance?

That oe rear muffler is a well made piece but weighs a ton, looking at it again while changing fuel filter last eve.

Have a great Memorial day Buddy, hope you can tinker today.

For what's it worth, this is what I recently did to my 80
I took off the pumpkin along with the small stock muffler. I do have a Magnaflo cat
along with MSDS headers.
My goal was to maintain the stock look as much as possible, cutting the exhaust tips to match the ones to the pumpkin.
At first I installed a Flowmaster 12" just in front of the half shaft. Sounded great but way to loud and a bit like a truck at times.
I then added a 14inch Magnaflo after the half shaft.
Now I really like the sound.
Sound is something to your own taste and you just need to tweak it as you go.
