there is another way, keep it in top condition, let others experience what a nice one is, and laugh at anyone who wants to buy it.

Sorry dude but purchase prices are public in TX. With a few keystrokes using the VIN, WP0JB0920FS861002, I found he paid $17k for this car in July-2010.

This type of research is what I do prior to any car purchase and I encourage anybody else to do the same.

If he can document why a $16k premium is being commanded through restoration, receipts, etc, than he has a solid argument. If the pricing delta is simply because it passed through his ownership, then the story is different.

I'm glad threads like this exist so innocent buyers don't get conned on what market values really are.

Registration must be different in Texas (or everyone is extremely honest).

Where I am, a $50,000 private sale would be showing up with at least one zero missing.

And with all due respect, where you and I live it won't be a 928 changing hands at 50K.
Last one I remember of any note was a silver 78 that was in the 7K range.

TX has a minimum value for title transfer. Think of it as an AMT on used car purchases. For instance, if you buy a GTS project that was a fire loss for $500, you will pay taxes on NADA low retail value which will be far greater than $500.

Since the car in question came out of an estate sale, the transaction value is public record and receipt issued along with title assignation..... No place to hide the value on this deal.
