Ok after seeing that picture that got me thinking, I see tons of bugs that are modded here in San Diego (yes including the engine swap ones)

I am surprised that he isnt able to get passed by the DMV, he must be pushing the wrong buttons at the DMV.

Isn't it '75 and older that's exempt? That would cover most original Beetles.
The Vanagon is an 86.

the weight would be the challenge.....the baby Olds alloy V-8 was often used 215 cu in but quite light

In Green Bay is a Bug with a big block Olds Toronado drivetrain. It's parked next to a heavily modified 928

It's balanced very well, was used for auto crossing.
