Default Sons 85 Auto broke down

Car is two hours away. Safe and at a trusted shop, however I am sure this is their first 928.
Quit running while driving normally, towed in last night.
Key first position is normal, engine turns over fine, plenty of gas. Initial diagnoses is no spark to plug?
ignition coil?
distributor?
Any ideas or advice is appreciated.

crank position sensor may have failed,
check the 3 running relays, they are all 53 relays
also the Fuel pump fuse. check the coil wires,
that they dont touch any part of their run

CPS? On '85? Thought it was for diagnostics only?

Should be two plugs on those up to I think '88. One is CPS for the computers and one is a diagnostic sensor (never used)

all of the LH injection systems use the CPS,
so 84 Euro and on,
and 85 USA and on

Makes sense that the 'puter requires TDC signal...already confusing the parts/sequence I went through for my intake refresh a few months ago...getting old is a drag...

Appreciate the expertise chiming in!

I am REALLY hoping it is just a relay. Nick (my son) had to go to work so he left the shop. I hope they were looking at it but won't know until tomorrow. Thanks again for all the help.

I always bump the starter and listen for the fuel pump.

Good luck!

Thanks again for the suggestions. I sent a link to his fuse chart courtesy of 928 Specialists and VERY specific instructions to start eliminating possibilities. I have gotten minimal feedback about progress and am assuming that his car is just sitting there at the shop and he is bumming rides to and from work. I am trying to be helpful to him but at the same time let him be his own man and discover some truths about life and truths about 928 ownership.

Brian,
(My son's name is Brian also) If your son Nick is in the ATL area, I can offer help if needed, tools, spare relays, etc. I know my son at 18 knew everything, at 20 he is aware that there are some things he doesn't know, and as he matures, he will learn.

Thanks Dave. The car is in Knoxville, TN. It is sitting at my former inlaws shop so he is not running up a bill. I appreciate your offer to help. I have at least one 928 brother close to him that I could call for help, but Nick hasn't gotten to that point yet. I am hoping he has a desire to figure it out. The jury is still out on that one.
Thanks again

Hey Chris

Most of what has been done has been on the auto trans. The only electrical was pulling and cleaning the cluster, pulling the fuse panel and cleaning the ground behind the panel.

pretty basic stuff
