Default What are these wires for?

I have an '84 RHD euro automatic and I was under the bonnet earlier. I noticed a some wires that weren't connected to anything.
One set were obviously supposed to be connected to a couple of connectors coming out a component set into the bottom right hand side of the radiator as there was a rubber casing around that pushed on. I connected these up but not sure what they are for and whether it matters which way round they are? It looks like it's probably some kind of temp sensor for either water or oil?
The second set of wires are black and brown and are above the belts in the front of the engine bay. The brown wire has a connector on it and the black one looks like the connector has been cut off? I've taken a pic here

Below there are almost identical wires that are connected to spades although there is no protection / insulation.
Can anyone let me know what this all should all look like?
Thanks Tim

In that area I am going to guess at belt tension warning thing and I am not even sure 84's had that feature, otherwise the temp sensor right over the big water outlet.

The Brown and black wires go to the solenoid that is attached to the bar that goes across the top of the engine. It is known as the A/C bleed valve and has the large vacuum line running from the front of the intake manifold. It raises the RPM of the engine when the A/C is on so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I hope this helps.

Yes, to the AC air bypass solenoid, just took a look at my 84 Euro, picture attached. The other end of the brown wire is a ground to the back side of the cam bearing flange.

84's dont have a belt tension warning system, 85 & 86 16v euros do.

Interesting that your 84 Euro has an orange harmonic balancer. Is that correct for automatics? My 5-speed's is green.

Thank you for your pic - I'll have a look this evening and see if I can get these wires plugged back in the right place. What's a harmonic balancer?!

It's on the end of the crank. Not sure if it matters, just a curiosity.

Yours and then mine:

Do you still have that AC thing, I removed mine, plugged the connection at the plenum and elsewhere I guess, been a long time, and removed all the AC crap from the engine bay. Car seemed to like the better air flow and as my car was never for traffic I didn't miss it.

Wouldn't think England would be high AC demand area.

Haha, you'd be surprised how hot and humid it gets for one or two days a year in the UK!
I've checked and I can see exactly the solenoid onto which these wires need to connect, the remains of the connectors are still hanging on. Thanks for the help and pix.
