Alright, just purchased a 928 on a whim a week and a half ago. I figured since I was lurking here that I'd introduce myself.
I've never really been into Porsche, but never had anything against it either. I own an Acura NSX, and when I purchased it I looked into other cars at the time too (308/348/355, 993/996, Elise/Espirit, Z06, etc) but it was the NSX that I wanted and ultimately purchased. I've always enjoyed driving my friends PCars whether they are Caymans, Boxsters, 993s, etc.
Anyway, here I am 5 years later and find myself adding a 928S 5-Speed to the stable because the price was right. I didn't get any records with the car so I am completing deferred maintenance (TB/WP, tensioner, rollers, boot, guide rail, fluids/filters, AC/PS/Fan V-belts, hoses, shocks, brakes, front spoiler, new leather on the front seats, speedo repair, misc trim bits, etc).
So I guess I do have a question....what do the guys with the cracked dashes do to repair them? The car is 30 years old, and most people understand that dashes crack, but I'm just looking into all the options.

Welcome to the tank. Some have dash recovered in leather. There are a couple people here that do this. Others will get a used one from sponsors such as 928 intl. Some will try the dash overlay (not recommended, been there done that) and others will use a dash mat (I have this on one of my '86.5's) Again welcome and enjoy your car.

welcome to the shark tank!!! Careful they are addictive....I started 9 years ago with a pristine street S4 and ended up with full blown racer today!
Deferred maintenance is the death blow to many 928's.....unfortunately many owners do not keep up with this....since it can be pricey.... Its money well spent for you to catch up on these details, congrats to you for that!
On your pod.....I know there are fixes available....if your pod was originally covered in leather the options are wider....since its relatively easy to repair the pod and re cover in leather.... Depending on the condition of your interior if you are considering repair-redo then take a look at Paul Champagnes work.....it is stunning.....well worth it

Thanks. Yes Mark, it is an '83. Right now, the dash is the the least of my worries with all of the deferred maintenance, but figured I'd pick you guys' brains for the future. So far there has been a lot of good info to be gathered here.
So far everything electric on the car seems to work, lights function properly, etc. It'll be a few weeks before I have her on the road again though.

Welcome. You are certainly tearing right in and with that lift and shop I will say that 928 found a good home. I recovered my pod myself and it looks alright. Jerry Feather has very detailed instructions for someone who is skilled in leather working. I am not, but mine turned out good enough for a Hot Rod street car. Eventually I will get a dash and pod from one of the very skilled vendors here.
