25 year rule is very very close for this car - then in she comes without any changes, federalization or other issues. Less than $600 in customs paperwork.
I need another car like I need a hole in my head - sunroof-less 89 with a rogerbox is about as good as it gets.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Back before I had my first car with sunroof, I wanted one badly. Then I had one and realized I can count on my fingers how often I used it and figured I won't pay a penny extra to have one in the next car. Then I had 928 with a leaking roof and changed my mind again - I'd rather pay not to have a sunroof, much less stressful and probably cheaper in the long run lol.

The Japanese cars can have one hiccup;
it seems some of them have a km only speedo, these are getting held up for swap out to dual km/mph. IIRC it's 30 or 35 for complete exemption.. ie vintage
Also, for anyone considering buying one and waiting a few months to title/register it... I wouldn't.. DOT is pretty smart and they really don't like folks trying to pull an end around on them
BUT............ if you start saving now, you can be ready to grab a nice early GTS when they become exempt in a couple years.

Also just spent a lot of time talking with DOT/Customs and as long as it is for your own use they do not care at all.
No problem in buying one now and waiting to bring it over. Again that is none of their business and they are only interested in the situation at the time of import.
They were even helpful in the valuation at time of import - I told them what I bought it for a year earlier and they said to reduce the value by 10% for depreciation.
The date that defines the 25 year rule is the build date on the plate - not interested in date in service. So if the 89 car was built in 9/88 it is nearly ready for shipping/driving.
If they did not flag RHD steering, RHD headlights and RHD driving/Fog lights I really don't think they would care too much about MPH/KPH as even the KPH have the MPH on the inner markings of the Speedo.

They will care if the car is brought into the US and sits here while it "ages".

Conceivably one could bring it in under a race or show exemption...and then register it when it becomes legal...but those are usually 1 year max with a deposit that will be forfeited if it doesn't leave the country when it should.....
I would think a 88 or 89 CS could come in that way now....or just wait a couple years
...
BTW..they are still watching...just recently they crushed a Land Rover Defender that was brought in under the guise of it being older (swapped old VIN on new body)....

Rog-is it 25 years in model year or in date of manufacture-probably model years but I'd bet it was made in 88.
