Hoping to perform my first oil change on my 88 S4. Any advice or any threads on the perfect oil change.

Car level. Appropriate filter. Clean of drain plug of any grit, and torque it back at 50 Nm. Don't over tighten. And yes, a new sealing ring.

tons of threads. Search is your freind. Also read the FAQ at the top of the page. Tons of info in there too about what you'll need to know for your car.

Mahle oil filter 928 107 201 05 (I think the Mahle number is 09143004057, or OC46) , new sealing ring for the oil pan drain plug (900 123 144 30), 9 quarts of your favorite motor oil that is heavy enough for your temperature range and has enough zinc in it for your flat tappets.

When installing the new oil filter, fill it ~3/4 full before installing it.

If you have the belly pans attached, oil changes become a much bigger hassle. This can be mitigated a bunch by doing this:

What about the impact wrench? You forgot about the Jiffy Lube special step!

Remember that the oil drain pan needs to hold eight quarts...

Take the time to use a good light to inspect everything under the car. Check diff oil level.
