Default Steering Wheel and Shifter

Will any steering wheels or shifters of any other later model Porches fit my 91 S4 auto? I feel It's looking a little dated in the cabin!

Yes, most later airbag steering wheels will work, but the spline area of the wheel must be machined. You also have to use the matching 'clockspring' connector that carries the airbag and horn signals. I'm using a 993 four-spoke wheel in my car and Gary Knox has a 996 three-spoke in his. Can't recall anyone doing newer wheels that these.

Many people do aftermarket shifters, I don't recall anyone fitting a newer Porsche OEM type to a 928 auto.

Welcome to the board and use search to look up details on the wheel upgrade.

Ok I know where there is a suitable 993 wheel in the right colour! What's involved in the machining bit and the clock spring connector? Forgive my ignorance I'm new to porches

The 993 and Boxster wheels up through to the 997 and 987 models will fit. You will need a 993/986 clock spring for the cancellation of the turn signal, and the steering wheel and airbag. The wheel needs to have the center hub bored down about 6 mm so the nut holding the wheel in place will fit with full thread contact.

IF you want either a 4 spoke or a 3 spoke wheel in leather with the boring already done, as well as an airbag and clock spring, contact me via e-mail and provide your e-mail. Also, let me know your color needs. I 'might' have a package of what you need.

PS: The shifter on my GTS, shown in the avatar is a Volvo shifter modified to fit on the 928 mechanism.

Thanks Gary I have sent you an email! I would also be interested in how you modified the Volvo shifter is it from a v70?
