Satin Black Hood Paint
Lately I see a lot of new or newer Porsche; Cayman, Boxster and Carrera models with this black basecoat, satin clearcoat hood treatment.
They are not aftermarket lightweight hoods, just factory hoods painted to look lightweight from what i can tell.
I see these cars at the local Porsche dealership whenever i visit.
I think it looks very sporting if the paintwork is done right.
If i were to do this i'd remove the metal Porsche emblem.

the cars i have seen with the black hoods have all been wraps,
no paintwork, and usually done to protect the paint

Just wrap it with 3M Di-Noc. At least you can peel it off later if you hate it, then get the hood repainted.
I'm actually deliberating this with my sunroof as the panel itself is oxidizing faster than anything else.

I know what you saying re looking like primer to some, lately every time i am up at the dealership i see 1 or 2 new Porsches with this look.
It appeals to me due to being a 911 owner for so long.
Older air cooled Carreras that have lightweight hoods fit to them started this look on Porsches. They also remove the metal Porsche crest to save a few oz's. I like that look.
My '86 Carrera hood (trunk or boot lid) feels like an anvil w/o the hood struts attached, people with older 911s know i am not exaggerating. Porsche made them in steel, wanted the weight and strength as the hood is 'active' in that it pushes down on the car at speed and the weight at low speeds helps with the 911 under steer issue.
928 hood shape is definitely active at high speeds as well and already super light.

I actually had it wrapped at a local shop, however you can order it on eBay, just be sure to get the good stuff like 3m 1080 or as some have been using DI Noc, I prefer the 1080. It's not to exspensive if your just doing the hood.

Thanks, but i was thinking of using paint.
I wanted to strip off the hood paint because when repainting my gun tip clogged the first respray and i had to respray the hood after the paint striped the first time around.
The paint is too thick on the hood and it bothers me. Its subtle but you guys could notice it.
I was thinking because i will have trouble getting an exact color match(my paint guy f'ed it up, code doesn't jive with color and i cut ties with him very long story no other Sikkens guy around),
i could get close enough and finish with satin clear,
i will remove all the paint to bare metal and fill the emblem holes if i do it.
Will take pics.
Thank you for the product info though.

Matt, what kind of DA do you have? If you need to strip your hood, or any other panel on a 928, my preferred weapon of choice is a National Detroit DA6. I can virtually strip a car perfectly to E-coat again with a DA6 and a roll of 180 grit 3M Gold. I'm not a big advocate of stripping 928s to bare metal.
That being said, don't beat yourself up over small blemishes. You can lay down the best paint job of your life and just as you do so, you will get stuck in the slow lane behind a gravel truck. Enjoy your car!
