If you want to see what it looks like, perhaps check out Plastidip - lots of info and photos on the web. Less than $10 gets you a satin hood...

For me flat black just brings back the look of a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 which at least was deliberate and covered not all the hood therefore not looking like the hood came off a different color car or was in primer waiting for body and paint work. But to each there own...

Looked at it closely today, there is still a fair amount of orange peel on the hood clear i can sand out, it will look a lot better if i take my time with it wet sanding.
I think the car would become too busy doing the hood in satin clear coat over same color.

I recommend this compound. Use it with a wool pad. Works as fast, or faster, than anything else I've ever used without leaving the deep swirls that other fast compounds do. Get the Mystic Cut machine glaze and go over the whole surface with a black foam pad when you're done with the rough stuff. You'll be blingin' then.

another temporary option for the satin black look. There is a spray can product called spray on bra, or something. it can be removed by washing with soap and water, the body panel must be waxed prior to application, but it would be an economical and fast , temporary way to do a trial run.

Lately I see a lot of new or newer Porsche; Cayman, Boxster and Carrera models with this black basecoat, satin clearcoat hood treatment.
They are not aftermarket lightweight hoods, just factory hoods painted to look lightweight from what i can tell.
I see these cars at the local Porsche dealership whenever i visit.
I think it looks very sporting if the paintwork is done right.
If i were to do this i'd remove the metal Porsche emblem.
