Thanks all for your very sound advice. We've got another six inches of snow again last night so my 928 remains in the garage.

To answer a question earlier in this thread, the belt was replaced last summer. Now that the tensioner issue has come to the fore I am queesy about the possibility of a problem some time while driving around the mountains far from home.

Question: Does one have to do a complete teardown if all lthat is necessary is to fix the tensioner.

As long as you're absolutely sure that everything else is OK, there's no reason you can't do just the tensioner. See Stans post ... #8

If in doubt about any other component in the system then you need to pull it all apart and check.
