Default who fixes ac controllers?

the controller on my 84 euro turns the blower on when it is in the "defrost" position.... bottom lever all the way to the right. It will run the blower at high speed regardless of what the **** says number wise. if I tap on it a little bit, it will stop. I am 99% sure that the controller is toast.

From what I remember, there is someone on here who fixes them no?

Don't be so sure - It is supposed to do that... apart from stopping when you tap on it...

You need to get an owners manual to understand how everything is intended to work.

This DEF is actualy Defogger more than Defrost - which explains the function better:

Defog - select windshield defrost vents (^), AC on (dehumidify), Heating to Max (evap), turn on blower to max (evap), fresh air feed
- this is the best way to remove condensation on the inside of the windshield - so you can see again - it really works - fast
- works even better if you close the console vent & door vents manually too

If you want to defrost an iced up windshled - this isn't the best mode (it certainly doesn't work like a ford defroster mode)

We sell rebuilt HVAC head units (Greg Brown rebuilds them for us).

Worth mentioning that Greg built a test fixture which enables him to TEST the units before and after repairs.....so he KNOWS the rebuilt unit works as it should.

I had a similar issue. There is a black wire with a white stripe in either a five or six pin connector. On my car the connector was toast just around that wire. Check yours to see if you have the same problem as I did. If your wire's connector is toast, replace it with a larger connector so it can handle the current going through it. My car 81 came equipped with automatic climate control and I don't know if yours has it. Either way check your connections to b sure they are clean and not toast.

fair enough. I had an owners manual in pdf format and have misplaced it. so Alan, you re saying that if the setting is on "def", and it is blowing (I can hear the motor working and feel air coming out of vents), and then I slide the bottom slider over to the left, it should stop blowing? that is what is happening. as far as the tapping thing, that could be a loose wire i guess. it jusst seemed weird to me that it would be blowing so strong in the one configuration, and then stop completely in any other. I havent really delved into the ac part of the system yet when I push the "ac" button which is located on the same controller that the power lock button is, nothing happens. It does not appear aas if the clutch is engaging on the compressor. I am not certain though. I am going to change over the system to r134 and then charge it up.

When I got the euro, it was completely apart. I reconnected the center console and installed the climate controller myself. mostly just to see if it would work or not. I was just assuming that it operated like every other one I have seen in my life.... bad assumption I guess.

I am absolutely hoping you are correct by the way. shelling out 300 bucks is annoying to say the least.

Not really - what I'm really saying is that in all active modes but DEF you should get the fan speed commanded by the fan switch **** - on DEF you will always get max speed.

why does it stop - or does it stop or just slow down - what is the fan speed switch **** set to?.

Read the manual... in this respect this works better than anything you have ever owned before (really). I consider this mode has basically saved my life - when my windshield instantly misted up at 90MPH on a single lane road (freak sudden rain/weather conditions) - DEF cleared the windshield enough to see in less than 4 seconds (a very long 4 seconds...).

I am more than 99% sure on this issue! ... however you may well still have other issues - loose connections, AC relay etc who knows.

ok, I get what your saying. My controller in the def position will blow at full blast...for lack of a better term. Unfortunately however, when it is in any other position, it will not blow, regardless of the **** position. this is why I think it is sketchy. I am thinking that in any position other than "def", that it should blow hard with **** on 4 no?

Additionally, the ac system has no pressure, which would explain why the compressor is not coming on.

Yes but that probably has nothing to do with the head unit - it has to do with the blower switch on the head unit (which is very reliable & actually rather separate), the blower relay and the resistor pack. I'd suspect the resistor pack first (especially if it isn't plugged in or even there ...?). On the air plenum - engine side - under the cowl.
