I think one of the submitters there has to own one, as much "press" as we have been getting about the cars it is pretty cool.

Alex Roy knows a little something about great Teutonic trans-con machines, nice looking '91 GT he's got there. Though I can't imagine a worse place to drive a GT than Manhattan....

I saw the pictures and wondered where he was going to be where he could hit the gas in 3rd and be impressed. Had to have left the island right?

In Alex Roy's book (The Driver) he tells a story about doing the fastest circumnavigation of Manhattan, so if anyone knows where to get into 3rd gear there, it's him.

OK so he thinks its a great car - why do we have to endure the "most unreliable Porsche ever built" crap all over again.
Who created this horse**** story? and why is it trotted out all the time...
Driven mine almost every day for 13 years and always got home - unreliable?

I never said it was unreliable...
...in fact, the friend I bought it from has kept it in shockingly mint condition. I couldn't be more thrilled and optimistic for this particular example. It's been one of my dream cars since high school!

Three Wheelin'
They are reliable, built like a tank. Properly Change the timing belt every 5 years or 44000-50,000 miles, which ever come first and you will be fine. Not half assed like some do and end up with bent valves.
Clean all the ground wires.
Change all the 5 dollar 22 year old "53" relays.
Make sure the knock sensors are working (usually the connectors and wire disintegrate from age), if they don't, timing gets retarded and you loose a lot of power.
There is a lot to read hear, almost any question you can imagine about these cars has been answered on this forum.

Welcome aboard Alex - I have referred untold numbers to your book.
You won't be disappointed in the shark. Bring it down to NC this summer for SITM. Great group and lots of libations. Great drives too, and a wonderful way to explore your car on the open road.

Alex, welcome to the 928 Forum on Rennlist!
As for Travis Okulski, it’s a shame that even after being in a great example of a 928, he couldn't overcome some of the long held misconceptions that other drivers have about the 928, and had to fill his article with left handed complements.
In addition to the wrongheaded comments about reliability, I have to disagree with almost everything in this paragraph:
"Every single part of this car is heavy. The gear shift is like opening the locks of the Panama Canal. The clutch is like trying to crush a steel girder with your foot. The steering takes more effort than changing someone's political positions."
And strongly disagree with this:
"There is nothing about this car that makes me say "let me see how it'll do on a track."
Like many here, I KNOW how it will do on a track.
