Default Windshield Trim Removal

This is probably one of my dumber questions I have asked. How do you remove the black trim surround on the front windshield? I'm afraid to start prying on it with a flat head screwdriver out of fear of tweaking it and damaging the A-pillar and glass.

It takes a special tool. Autozone should have it. There are 7 tabs that pinch the trim leg to the body. You have to pry the tabs AWAY from the body to release the down turned trim edge.
BE VERY CAREFULL as if you pry too low or at an angle and catch the glass edge you WILL BREAK the glass.

I use a wooden block and small Carpenter's trim hammer.

Find or buy a 1"x2"x12" (nominal) piece of red oak or similar and make a clean cut on the business end of the oak with a miter saw. A slight angle on business end helps to get into the seam.

Place business end edge of wood block at seam between your windshield trim and windshield frame and start tapping the other end with your hammer toward the center of the windscreen.

Start at the bottom end of the side trims, Very easy.

Good luck.

On my '89 the side trim was tapped as described above in a direction more-or-less parallel to the windshield surface, but the top trim piece had to be removed by lifting it perpendicular to the surface of the windshield - definitely not by tapping it in any direction remotely parallel to the surface.

Find the locking tabs across the top and apply pressure only at those points. I used door panel clip pliers (http://www.harborfreight.com/panel-c...ers-67399.html), some plastic shims to protect the windshield, and some choice profanities to remove it. You might protect the paint with some masking tape if that is a concern.

HTH,

Bob

Yes, forgot top trim is attached differently, but it will become obvious to OP as the top trim releases a bit at the ends once the side bits are off.
